As far as I know, it's totally unique. It dates back more than a 100 years before there was any standardization. I've heard the history but don't recall the details.

The consensus out there in internet-land seems to be 7.7 mm (.302") x 32 T.P.I.

They do make a 4 way tool for threading the inside, outside and core removal. Most auto parts stores sell them.

I buy these nice nickel-plated brass tire valve stem caps as sold by Aerostich. They are gasketed, knurled, and have tethers so I don't lose them. It cuts down on pressure loss...and looks pretty trick.

all right i will finish the story. I tried to get by with a cheap ($26.) TPMS direct from china. looked to be a direct copy of the careid one I already had $50. I got 2 sets. both had such poor threads on them they won't screw on the stem correctly. so I foolishly thought I might have a tap in my tool box that I could run through the brass insert. wrong again and even if I could buy the correct one (about $12.) is it worth trying.
most likely smarter to buy the $50 ones again from a US seller.
