Time on my hands
« on: March 14, 2020, 07:42:27 PM »
The ski school called to say part-timers are redundant. All my spring break private clients canceled anyway -- Aspen is a no-fly zone. We postponed our late-March confabulation at Sun Valley. So I'm unemployed for the remainder of the ski season. Vail closed all their ski resorts today -- not surprised because no one wants to eat in the on-mountain restaurants (which are now limited to 250 capacity) and the restaurants contribute about half the revenue. So if they're not making money, might as well close and screw the season pass holders. Theoretically it's only a one-week close but they told seasonal workers to head home.

But Aspen is still open so I'll free-ski with local friends. When the weather warms up just a bit more I'll fire up the Guzzis and resume paint work on the Triumph and general tire renewal all around.  Meanwhile Gail has me working around the house.

If you stay out in the shop getting everything ready to ride, there won't be as much "honey-do" stuff from 'er indoors, and the bikes will be happier.   There's everything to be said for it!

Email from Aspen: The governor has ordered all Colorado ski areas closed immediately. Turns out 40% of our --19 cases are in ski towns. So that's the winter.

Thanks, LR. Weather is fine for riding. Still a lot of sand and gravel on the pavement. Cleaning out my locker in Aspen today but should be out on the T tomorrow.

I work for Alterra and we’ve announced only a one-week closure (as has Vail), so don’t put your stuff away yet. Granted, the closures could easily be extended through the end of the ski season, which is almost here anyway. The Alterra corporate offices are on partial closure for the next two weeks, and then we’ll see.

I’m sure this has a meaning, but I have no idea what it may be.  There is no FAA TFR in effect for Aspen/Pitkin area.  Fear among the wealthy clientele?

I'm sure some of our readers recognized this sentence ("Aspen is a no-fly zone") as a funny. Funny of course dies when it needs to be explained.

In reality ASE was a madhouse yesterday as Gulfstreams and Canadairs fled in flocks.

I did a 25-mile loop on the T, stopping off at the car wash.  Lovely ride in 60-degree weather.

I did my usual winter-storage drill back in October -- full tank of fuel with stabilizer, and charged the batter for a few hours in January. Today I filled the tires, checked the oil and hit the starter. It fired right up and idled happily, so off we went. It's like it just ran yesterday. Tomorrow I'll ride the Mille. Gail wants to come with.
