I got new plugs from Harpers and I'm adjusting my valves today too. Had the plugs changed by someone else before. So how do you get to the inner spark plug to change it?

If it’s like a Norge, just whip the air box out.
I’ve done it with airbox in situ, but it’s horrible.

Yes the gas tank must come off. The air box comes out, and you then have access to the innner plugs.
I bought a special socket that is thin walled to get to the plugs.
I waited way too long to change those plugs... something like 33,000 miles. It started running badly so I changed them. Made a huge difference.

The socket is a Motion pro 08-0239a and the extension is a Motor pro 08-0239b. 16mm
Find those tools and have them ready and the plug replacement will go well.

Once the tank is off, is it easy to figure out the air box removal?

Yeah, very obvious. Getting it back together is another story. Be prepared to warm the airbox cover with hot water and/or a hand hair dryer.

The airbox was a puzzle. Keep working it and you will do fine. I had to get some really long needle nosed pliers to attach the drain hose at the bottom, once everything was together.

I used a 5/8" plug socket put on a grinding wheel and ground it tapered. It was cheap.
I did this back when CARC's first got here, gave the specs to Lee Bruns here on forum and he made some for sale. He may have a few sitting around.

IMPORTANT---clean out spark plug well with compressed air after cracking plugs loose or all that crap could go in the hole!!!!!!!!

You're getting good advice. And it's been so long since I changed my inside plugs, I don't remember too many of the details. I do recall I ground down a socket, but still could not reach the plugs. Zoom Zoom loaned me his authentic Moto Guzzi plug socket (PN 05.90.19.30) and I was able to get them out and new ones installed. I did this without removing the air box, but it was a tight fit. I used a short piece of rubber fuel line stuck on top of the new plugs to act as an extension to get them started, and finished up with the socket, and I think a wobbler extension. Unlike Scott's bike, mine was still running good when I changed them. Embarrassed to tell you at what mileage (oh WTH, it was in 2013 at 45,890.) The current set is running nicely 24,000 miles since I installed them.

EDIT: Guzzi Steve and I posted at the same time ..... just saw his socket recommendation.

Yes, but I’ll tell you how if you want.
You’ve to take it off anyway to get at the inners.
Remove side panels
Remove small fairing fasteners..(only the ones in shot)

Drain tank
Remove rear tank retaining bolt
Slide tank rearwards an inch or so
Raise tank rear and place a 4” block under
Disconnect breather tube
Disconnect fuel level sensor plug
Disconnect “quick” release fuel line
Grab the tank and walk away with it
Then there’s the airbox...

My experience was the same as ohiorider when I did my Breva 1100. I removed the airbox cover and the oil condenser chamber at the front of the box. You don't have to remove the hose clamps for this...the hoses just slip on and off. It's a good idea to blow out the plug spark hole prior to removing the plug. The RH one is particularly hard to deal with due to lack of space so take your time. I changed mine at 50,000km.

Thanks for all the good advice. Been having trouble with the Red & Gray fuel disconnector. Did this 3 other times OK but this time the gray collar came loose!!! Trying to figure how to press in the 4 areas inside the collar when the collar is loose around them. Frustrating!!! Any advice?

Yep..
Hold the elbow with the fingers of one hand and slide the collar towards the 90 deg. bend, you’ll sometimes hear a faint “click”.
Then get both hands on the bend and ease the connector away from the bend with your thumbnails.
Support the elbow with your third hand...

I pulled the tank off to the side and supported it and bypassed that darn quick disconnect fuel connector. Removed the air box. Tried a thin wall 5/8 deep socket and IT'S HITTING THE SIDES and won't go over the inner plug! tried dremmeling some of the outer metal but it still won't fit around the plug! Going to a NAPA store tomorrow and buying another deep socket 5/8" thin wall. (The socket we used tonight was my friend's and he didn't to sacrifice it) And if that doesn't fit, I'll grind down the walls of the new socket.

I contacted Curtis Harper and I ordered the specific socket designed for the inner Guzzi spark plug. He sent it out today priority mail. I should have the bike back together for the weekend. THANKS CURTIS ... AND THE REST OF YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!!

Don't forget to depressurize the pump, it makes it much easier.
Unplug the pump electrical connector.
Start the engine, it will run for a few seconds until it runs out of fuel pressure.
Disconnect the quick connector.
