Should I start a topic for in rebuild
« on: March 24, 2020, 12:30:54 PM »
I got the motor out of the Quota. The clutch plates are soaked I oil, and I took pictures of several items that I want input on about whether to replace or not. I want to make sure I’m going to be asking in proper forum before I post a half dozen more pictures with questions. Thanks

Robert

Replace them.
I prefer the ones from MGcycle that are riveted AND bonded.

As I understand it you can start a thread about anything but religion, politics or guns? I am sure I will be corrected if wrong!!

Yup! I was just making sure it would be okay bc what started simple on my bike (replacing breather hoses) turned into a much more serious undertaking requiring the removal of the motor, and various parts to be preventively replaced.

Speaking of serious undertaking, we're gonna need a whole lotta pictures of this adventure   Good luck onthe repairs :thumb:

I'm sure there's a story behind it, but that sounds ugly; Don't you dare come near the breather hoses on my bike, just saying, lol

Replace everything, all seals, gaskets, o-rings, crush washers. Clean everything, no clutch dust. Seal cam plug and you are done. You don't want to go back in there for 75-100K mi..
You should know all about the bike by the time you're done.

So my bike coated my rear tire in oil on the ride into work one day. I got home and left a trail of oil on the road into my driveway during deceleration. After judicious use of the search feature here and on the advrider Quota thread I figured the simplest course to start with would be breather hoses. Always start simple “is the computer plugged in” before escalating “replace the motherboard”!

So then I found this

So to remove the crankcase breather tube required splitting the motor and removing the clutch.

Now that I’ve got it apart there's plenty to do. I’m going to be replacing the oil supply lines.

The Hall effect sensor for the tach

Upgrading the headlight

Putting on gustoffen fairing, crash bars from Hauto, replacing seals and gaskets as preventative measures, and upgrading the oil breather system incorporating a catch can and upgraded brass T fittings at air filter, as well as replacing clutch plates. Also going to try my hand at repairing and updating my dash insert that is cracked. Not my gauge pod, the insert the gauge pod attaches to.

So, I apologize to mods for having several duplicate threads. If it would help to merge them into a Quota repair thread that is understandable. It’s just that one thing led to another and now it looks like a Quota exploded in my scooter shed!!!

Thanks to everyone for all their assistance and patience. I’m loving wrenching on the bike and hopeful that by the time the current situation is done miss Mirabel will be all fixed up!

Thanks Steve! That’s the plan. I’ll be leaning on y’all as parts start trickling in.
