LeMans III Vin numbers

What's up with the LM3 Vin numbers? References say the line starts with 11111, but mine is an 84 with VIN 100338.

At first I thought there must be a mistake on the VIN or title, but searching a little found an 84 on BAT and another on ebay with VINs close to mine. Evidently, the VIN data in books and on the net is all whacko.

Is there a source that got it right?

Mine is a 1983.

 It is 100042.

The 11111 comes fron Falloons book: Moto Guzzi Sport and LeMans Bible.  However my red 1984 is 100239.  Consistent with others here.

My '80 CX is 111257 the dude at the state inspection place just asks me what the VIN is every year. Then he says "start that thing up for me will ya? " then he goes  Died in the wool gearhead

It went into a left turn Volvo, passenger door in 07. Getting an upgrade right now Sporty front end ,brakes, wheels, race swingarm. Got a Jackal block for FI if I decide to go that way. Frame is still bent, no $ on retirement for it.

Steve - that's sad! Poor baby! I'd probably go the other direction with wire wheels and V7S type of look. It's obviously lost collector value, so might as well build it as you'd like.

sdcr - great positioning. I love those Dinos - why didn't I have twenty grand thirty years ago when they were super affordable?

I don't know about you guys, but I love the look of the III, all except the kicked up back of the seat. Seems to me it would look much better sloping down to the fender instead.

So the con census is, that the book has some inconsistencies?

Sure looks like there was screw up somewhere. The LMIII figures listed seem to be for the CX100 instead.

The front master piston seals had relaxed so couldn't get any front brake action. Ordered a rebuild kit from MG. It arrived yesterday so installed it today. When fitting the hand lever, the fixing bolt wouldn't thread in. This is the original master with the round reservoir. Discovered the threaded section had shifted and when I took a look, the threaded section just fell off. It had been stressed in the past and was hanging on by a sliver, giving up at that very moment. Good thing it wasn't during a panic stop!

It's too bad since the thing looks brand new otherwise. I'm wondering if it could possibly be tigged back together.
