Staintune Closing Shop

Staintune fabrication & sales closing shop. I ordered a Daytona / 1100 Sport set of exhaust mufflers, which was suppose to had been shipped to my home two weeks ago. I have been trying for the last two weeks to contact Adam Greenwood from Staintune about the status of my order, but nobody is replying to my emails.  Their web page states that they are still selling items till June 30th, 2020, so keep this in mind if or when ordering something from them now.....




Update: Adam from Staintune send me a message last night apologizing for not getting back with me, and he reassured me that my mufflers are fabricated, and that they would ship out next week.......

That's unfortunate. Hopefully you will either get your money back or they'll ship your product! They have been around a long time and make a great product. I have a set on my 01' Bonneville and love the tone.

They are/were a fine company.  You'll be treated fairly. Lot's of reason for delays right now.

I am saddened  by the news of their closure...one less quality exhaust option.

That's sad.  I had/have Staintunes on both of my Ducati Monsters.  I have been pleased with them.

I also ordered and used one in a pharmaceutical cleanroom once.  (I'm an engineer in medical technology.)

They had a spray dryer in a cleanroom making a dried powder product, that was supplied with air by an eductor (aka jet pump), which was very loud.  The eductor came from the supplier with a muffler, but it had materials that were not allowed in a cleanroom, so I had to find a way to quiet this thing with cleanroom compatible materials.

There was another eductor in the lab, about half the airflow of the one in the cleanroom.  So I went down to the garage, and pulled one of the Staintunes off my Ducati, brought it in to the lab, and hooked it up to test the idea.  I wasn't sure how well it would work, since a motorcycle is a pulsed flow outward, and the eductor is a steady airflow inward, but it brought the noise down really well.

The eductor in the lab had about the same airflow as one cylinder of my Duc, so I went to the Staintune website, and looked for a bike with a single muffler design, and twice that airflow, to match the one in the cleanroom.  The Suzuki Bandit 1200 fit the bill, so I ordered one of those.  It took a bit of convincing to persuade the purchasing department that this was a legitimate piece of pharmaceutical equipment, but I got it and it worked just fine.

Yep, ran into the same thing on an order for a set of Agostini mufflers for my bike. I think its going to be a long wait for anything from the Brits or Italians. I just left the order in place but not expecting anything this summer or even fall. At least I dont have any money paid out.

I've got a few Staintune exhaust systems and they're gorgeous works of art. High quality stuff! But they certainly are expensive!

I've found Kehin in England to have about the same high level of quality. Not cheap either, but really nice stuff!

I've got one Staintune airhead muffler missing its mate - always thought I'd run into the other and have a pair. Guess I'll have to find someone that needs it.

I'm sad they're going out of business.

My Norge has a custom made Staintune that the boys made for me..
I always think of them as I pass this sign each week going from Melbourne to Sydney.
Seems a bit sadder now..

 Lots of car and motorbike aftermarket companies have become unprofitable , Staintune built a very high quality product , but at premium price , in today's climate buying an aftermarket muffler manufacturer might be a bad business decision . Their webpage indicates they are moving to another product .

Since the business was listed for $150k (AU), I wonder if a bank would support someone willing to take it on.  Heck the equipment is probably worth a good deal even without the designs and intellectual property.

 Considering Staintune had been on the market for two years , that question probably answers its self .

The standard way of pricing a biusness is 6 times the anual profit from memory, 150k suggests its more a hobbie than a full time gig.

Wondering if they are experiencing anything like a friend here in California.  He (won't mention his name or company) was just put out of business by AQMD.  He made exhaust systems and was fined for each sale and put out of business, but then again, this was California...

Depending on the type of original exhaust, it can be a violation of Federal law to modify the exhaust. Do any bikes have cat covertors built into the mufflers?

By the way AQMD is South Coast Air Quality Management District. This is for California.

In the US, or at least where I live, motorcycles aren't required to have cats, so removing it isn't a legal issue.

I have just received a message from Adam, Staintune about possible fabricating a couple more exhaust systems for some people I know from the 1100 Sport forum, and he will still accept orders, so send them a message if anyone would like to buy a Staintune exhaust before they close shop for good!

Here is his message:

I can take another order, but unfortunately I would not be able to give a time frame as our business is now going into hibernation due to the increasing impacts of the corona virus. I will be adding to the Staintune blog with more information ASAP.

I believe if the bike is required to have a convertor to pass EPA emissions in the USA, this fact makes it illegal to remove them regardless of whether the individual states checks for their presence on the bike.

I have been looking for a Staintune muffler for my BMW K75. I will contact him, might be worth a shot.
