I took a ride this morning...(GC)
« on: April 08, 2020, 01:33:46 PM »
I could'nt take it anymore...had to get out on two wheels.  56 mile loop - Clarkdale, Cottonwood, through West Sedona, and back to the ol' VOC.  Social distancing, Italian-style.  "The Yellow Horse" ran good in the cool weather...rain coming this afternoon, (front moving in from CA). :thumb:

JJ that is some beautiful country and I rode over there a couple of years ago (not on a Guzzi) and really enjoyed going down 89A from Flagstaff to Sedona, Jerome, Prescott and back to SoCal. I believe that canyon is called Oak Creek canyon and it is gorgeous. A lot of twisties but they were repairing the road and some of it was unpaved and quite rough. The green trees with the backdrop of red/blond hills is captivating in that canyon. Some real nice cabins and camping along the way. Very nice...

JJ,

Beautiful pics, as always.  We would happily move there, if able.

Yesterday, we rode to pick-up school learning packets for the kids.  A pleasant way to run an errand.

Easy there.  We're not in prison.  Not near anyone while on the bike and school pickups are well regulated.  6 feet apart, school staff in PPG, stuff placed on tables and then we go one at a time to get the items-no contact.  Same at the food stores.

My EV was looking ratty.  Grease and a little oil leak on the left side, dirty spokes and just general scruffiness.  I sprayed some gel WD40 on it a couple of days ago.  Then today I sprayed it with Awesome.  Went to the car wash and got the greasy parts and took the shampoo brush on the spokes.

I took it on a 50 miles ride to dry it off.

I let it cool down and took the spray cleaners, Awesome, WD40, Mother's Aluminum polish, vinyl dressing, brushes and rags.  She looks pretty clean, couldn't get all the grease in the nooks and crannies but much better.  Next, I'll do a service on the bike with fluids, lube, spark plugs, gaskets and valves.  And then do more cleaning along with the service.

I'll have to take it on another ride after I service it.

Next I'll have to do the Greenie......

Correct!  Yes, we are in lock-down here in Arizona!

Masks now worn in the stores....hand-sanitizer used often and regularly....all schools, bars, restaurants, casino's, barbershops, salons, CLOSED!!!    Take out food only for some restaurants...No large crowds, concerts, or large gatherings, all major hiking trails in the areas all CLOSED!!   The only things that are open are grocery stores and gas stations...

Took a good run yesterday. First really good weather day for it this year. About 130 mile run up along the river valley. Left home never stopped until I pulled into my driveway at home. Really no where to stop anyway due to shutdowns. Plan on this as being the pattern for riding for the near future.  :thumb:

Same here!  Took the Griso out this afternoon to the coast, had to do something.  Keeping to the social distancing guidelines I only stopped once just to streach my legs.  Nice day on the coast!
However, I did meet a few bikes, sport bikes in groups going VERY fast.  My thought was "not the best time to go to the hospital".
Then on Highway 1 near Pescadero I see what looks like a motorcycle up on the embankment up side down.  Several cars stopped people all around a rider on the ground.  I pulled over, but they had already called 911 Paramedics, Fire on the way.  Don't know what happened, they were tending to the rider.  I don't believe he was part of the group(s) I saw earlier.  The a few miles down the road Paramedics and Fire Code 3 heading to the crash scene...
When I got home I heard that Life Flight helicopter was on scene, Highway 1 closed for the Life Flight.  Most likely heading to Stanford Med Center.  I hope the guy will be alright but like I said not a good time to be in the hospital...
I felt bad that I could not do anything...but better to not hang around and get in the way since he had help there...
Otherwise a great ride, but I did not take any pictures

Yes, look forward to riding with my friends again, especially JJ!  But JJ is correct, this will last at least through Summer and then restrictions will be lifted gradually.
But it was a nice ride yesterday...

Been getting in 40 to 60 mile runs before dinner every good evening.  Nice that the twisties are right outside my driveway.  What I am not doing is fueling after every ride like I used to.  Always like the bikes put away full, but now I am waiting until the bike needs fuel.

I had a Dentist appointment next Monday and found out today that even they are closed until the "all clear".

Ive taken a few short ones.. Mental health rides really. Gives me a chance to get out, alone with no one around. Nature, the road, the smells and sounds. I take it easy.. I dont want to have to tax the already over loaded hospitals..  But being out, away from everyone, and everything.. even if just for a half our or so...  In the long run its better for me and the people around me.

WOW!!  That's a nice one...1969-1970? 911 Targa?  On my bucket list someday...   :thumb:

Yeah, a dream car.... I've wanted a 911S since I saw one in the opening scenes of Lemans in like 1972.

This is a 1976 912E, basically a 911S base model with a modified 914 4cyl motor. I pulled it out of the woods back in 2011, and did a complete ground up restore/resto mod (mechanicals) that lasted 6 years. Did all the work myself with the exception of some machining and balancing of flywheel and crank, refreshing the heads, and final paint and body work.

The motor is a total franken motor and dyno's at 135HP at the rear wheels. It's got the rings from a Ford SVO 2.3 liter turbo, Keith Black Pistons for a Harley, valve gear from a Porsche 911, and a bunch of custom mods to include a custom built header system, and modified Dellorto DRLA carbs. I also installed the full vented rotors and calipers from an 84 Porsche 930, and has custom Derlilin suspension bushings (0 resistance instead of the stock pressed in rubber twist bushings) as well as an AFM with 02 sensor, cyl head, and triple oil temp and pressure gauges, 911 Turbo steering rack, and a bunch of other stuff.  But I wanted to keep the purist period correct outer appearance. That is the original factory color.

The car is sweet. NEVER could afford to buy it, the restore was under $15K including the $300 to buy, just about 1/3 the value. Spread out over 5 years was financially feasible...  Took it on a 3K mile trip a couple years ago, averaged 30MPG. Best part is, with the lighter motor and some mods, the car is a perfect 50/50 weight balance and on track days, I spank other NA Porsches in power, speed and in the twisties. I can drive this thing in turns faster than when on any of my motorcycles, FJR & FZ1 included.

In 2013, my good friend, Ginny, and I visited her family who lived in Northport at the time.  She had flown into Lansing (I think,) driven to Northport, and I met her there.  Rode the 1200 Sport from Cleveland to Northport.  Lovely little tourist town in the summertime, and I took some time to ride various roads that ran thru the Leelanau Peninsula.  Stopped at a small Catholic Church with a rather interesting history.  A Czech community, where several were employed in the metal trades.

Here's a couple of pics from where I visited.

Bob

EDIT: Added one more pic - screen capture from GoogleMap.  Made good time from home to the Grand Rapids area.  I'd forgotten how fast Michigan drivers run.  It was a race from Lansing to Grand Rapids on I-96.  But that gave me plenty of time to enjoy the ride up some of the western coast line.  The 1200 Sport was in its element on this ride.  "How fast you wanna go, boss?  .........  I'm up for it!"

I hate to have to say this, but US deaths 1324 and new cases 20,702 today.  If you guys keep driving around you WILL spread / get CV-19.  Simple fact.
BTW the main casualties are overweight males, 60 plus.
A guy died here who broke his arm.... then got CV-19 in hospital.

I won’t post again.  Your decision.

Very cool

Yes a wonderful little church...I know it well on Kolarik road in Suttons Bay. Our MGNOC rally ride most often circumnavigates the Leelanau peninsula, listed by bicycle magazine as in the top 5 roads in the US...we motorcyclists love the twisties rolling along through the National Lakeshore with views of Lake Michigan. Its an amazing place to ride and where I will be tomorrow should the weather cooperate!!!

Come on up for the rally late this summer if we don't have to cancel!!

Cheers

I took no offense to his comments...we are all in different situations.

I will start at my home 6 miles from any town, in full gear with closed face helmet, ride the loop and return home ( no gas needed) while along the way I will be going through a drive-through pharmacy to pick up a prescription that I needed to collect anyway. I do not think the rest of my loop endangers or adds risk to others.

back in the 70's I was the Stihl chainsaw rep for the UP some of northern Wi and the north 1/2 of Mn. I seriously thought about buying a little Yamaha snowmobile shop in Christmas. I sure miss the solitude up there but not the mosquitoes and all the other biting critters.
