I watched 'Sit Stay Ride: The Story of America's Sidecar Dogs' on Amazon and it got me thinking about our non-human Guzzi family members.  I regularly ride with our rescue pup, Ava, and met a guy in Nor-Cal that rode with his rooster.  Whether you ride with your fur(feather)babies or just love them to pieces, I want to see pics of you together.

Here are a few with Ava.

we dont do dogs, but we have a house fuill of cats

Clockwise: Jasper, Babette, Kitten, and Peepers

Jasper wont wear a collar, but he loves this little Jasper & Rose Quartz necklace that Lupe made him

His favorite is his 'Eminem Hoodie' however

Peepers is a true sleepyhead, here she was interrupted during a winter afternoon nap

Our dog Jem has a blankie like a baby, he drags it all over the house, if he had thumbs he'd suck them.

He caught his first baby bunny yesterday and soft mouthed it so when I got it away it just ran off.

He can peel a tennis ball in one piece.

Our 8 year old Boxer Candy guarding the bikes from unwanted cats.

And our cat Squeaky, who just showed up one day and decided to stay. He is semi-feral, a jerk and quite capable of ripping off your face, but we sort of like him as he is good at removing rodents. He is old now, so those days of eating the entire rat are over as his teeth are not as good as they use to be.

This is Leroy.

His specialty is moles, and he's quite good at it.

Mice tremble at the mere mention of his name.

Tom the cat and Jack the Border Collie are our housemates.   Tom's gone now, but lived a cat's ideal life ...

Jack is still with us, and doing all the things that Border Collies do ...

They were always best friends ...

We've had two kids, and three grandkids, and I know for a fact that these animals understand as many words, and regulate their lives as well as any 3-year-old child.   And in some ways, a 15-year-old.

We've had 6 dogs and 5 cats.    We miss Tom, and enjoy Jack, but when he's gone (he's 11 now), he'll be the last.   We're not going through what we go through ever 15 years or so when they leave us ....

I'll start with my dog Maggie. She's a 120lb Rhodesian Ridgeback that lives next door with my mother and uncle.  Very intelligent and fantastic dog but doesn't tolerate strangers-

We've got too many indoor cats here at our house  but that's how it is right now. Pics aren't all perfect but try to show their characteristics.. In order of arrival-

Jake showed up as a feral in my studio about 8 yrs ago.  Blind in one eye, broken hip, multiple hernias plus more.  Vet thought the injuries were more consistent with being attacked & then dropped from height by a hawk (as he had seen before) than being hit by a car because there weren't abrasions.  Wild and dangerous when he was young.  We thought he was deaf (he isn't)  because he was unfazed by the loudest equipment I used on the stone while he sat just out of reach getting peppered with stone chips.  We finally caught him and moved him inside.   He's mellowed a lot into  a great old man dirty cat-

Bacon was next.  He was adopted twice as a kitten from the shelter & retuned for being "too energetic" before we adopted him. His name was Paris (?!?) when we met him, but we thought Jake & Bacon sounded better so he became Bacon because everybody loves Bacon.   Sweetest lap cat we've ever known-

Lichen aka Fuzz aka Goob/Goober is the alpha cat, much larger than the others.  He was a feral from a summer camp in the Poconos, who was supposedly going to be offered as a kitten to a large snake at the nature center if still there at the end of the summer.  He's polydactyl (long jointed "thumbs") and full dew claws on hind legs, which is apparently very unique.  He came home with wife & daughter and officially started us down the road towards too many cats...

Scrungy (since named Princess Scrungy) is a black-ish bob-tailed cat that showed up on the carport on Saturday night.  My wife wanted a black fuzzy kitten when we got Bacon.  Bacon is still that black fuzzy kitten but Scrungy really is.  Kinda dwarfed, she lies in a shadow or on a black sheepskin and completely disappears until she opens her eyes. Really funny.  She is too important to notice me unless we're alone.  Then she's my best friend..

The latest is Tippy (short for Tipitina).  She a feral pissy cat (spelled correctly) who showed up at the studio with a clipped ear and a butterfly tattoo.  She is the only indoor/outdoor cat.  She approves who can see me and who can't, whether it's person or animal.   Funny cat that doesn't wander away from the buildings.  Definitely has a massive ego.   After working alone for so many years, it's nice to have someone checking in all day who comes in when it "quitting time."  We think she would probably ride with me on a motorcycle if we did such things.

And I cannot forget to include Layla, my wife's non-releasable federally licensed educational ambassador opossum.  She's brain trauma plus other injuries, but very docile compared to some.  We don't dress her up, but my wife did do a picture of Layla in her Easter best last weekend.  Her sidekick Llama Llama Ding Dong is in the background..

Time for me and Tip to go to work.

This is Maisie our Scottish Terrier. Angus, our previous Scottie, died just before Christmas about 12-13 years ago. Wifey and I agreed that we would wait a while before getting another dog... About a month later she called me at work and begged permission to bring Maisie home. I agreed but wasn't happy about it.  When I got home and met Maisie I became a dog person! She was so affectionate and quiet I had nothing to complain about.

This is Max but he introduces himself as "Max the Wonder Dog" I have my doubts if that's his real name (he came to live with us in the Ozarks on the witness protection program) But this is his favorite spot in the back yard.

This is a photo from early in his career when he was in Roswell, NM. He actually has a pretty good income. He's still getting royalty checks from the poker game tapestry gig from years ago.

Now and then, he'll take a run out west. I think he must be European, Americans aren't as fascinated with Route 66, but he keeps his past to himself mostly.

Our last kitty, Missy. 18 now and almost totally blind, but gets around well. When she is gone we will get 2 more. I can't prove it, but think owning cats is why I have never had a problem with high blood pressure.

So many wonderful pictures and stories.  Keep 'em coming! :thumb:

My husband and I have only had dogs, as he is very allergic to cats.

I come from a long line of Manx cat and lovers.  Also, my aunt and uncle adopted two bucks and two 'possum (rescues that couldn't be returned to the wild) as well as a dog, two 'official cats' (Manx) and 20+ neighbourhood meowers that they fed twice a day.

This is Bella.  Her breed is unknown, only about 22lbs.  She is a very good girl, like the rest here I'm sure.  She has as sweet a temperament as any dog you will meet.  She's fairly smart I think.  She recognizes at least 5 people and a few dogs by their spoken names as well as 10's of English nouns and verbs.

Her baby pic:

I got out of the shower one day to find her in a predicament with this frisbee toy.  Not sure how it happen, but she was a bit forlorn and looking for help.

Shes just over 10 now, and having some orthopedic issues that are slowing her down.  We are facing a likely double patella repairs in the near term.
