A bachelor coworker of mine refinanced his paid off house and used the $75,000 to go into day trading.  In 18 months he amassed 1.3 million dollars, and retired at 42 years old.  It can be done, but he was one who also bought Apple at $5 a share when it looked like they were going to disappear.  .

With a lot of work and a lot of smarts, and a willingness to take big risks (like a 40-year-old bachelor with a job is in a position to do), you can certainly make a fortune that way.   I've known people who have done it, but it's hard work.     Or you can lose all $75,000 and start all over again; we don't often hear those stories, though!

I'm just saying that if someone believes, to the level of detail that was posted, that he KNOWS how the world financial markets are going to go, then there are very well known and very specific ways that you can take a small stake and turn it into a fortune using that insight and prediction.

To which my response is "Go on, then".

But even us bikers, who have lived through generations of different bikes over the years, we don't even seem to know which bikes are going to become high-dollar classics and which ones aren't.   I mean, who would have thought that smokey, rattling, buzzing, cheaply made nickel rockets like Kawasaki H1s and H2s would be $10,000 classics today?   Not many of us, that's for sure ....

In the San Francisco Bay area I'm not seeing any great pricing.

And actually, I've gotten my best prices on new bikes when the economy was booming and people buying bikes like crazy ... like if the Ducati sales guy (& mgr/owner) just sold 10 bikes at full price, then he is OK selling me one at a good discount ... whereas now it seems a sales person needs to make a living on a lot fewer sales.

For the used market, feels a bit similar, when you need money you don't want to take a low offer, you need money!

The biggest deals I've seen have been high end, lightly used bicycles during great times ... like wealthy high tech worker buys super cool $7,500 mountain bike, then 2 years later there is some other super cool mountain bike so he puts his used bike on craigslist for $2000 and I run over and buy it as quickly as I can.

There are a couple of reasons why the market for bikes hasn't sagged yet. (And it will.)
One: With social distancing, many potential sellers haven't figured out how to safely proceed with showing a bike, taking a cash deposit, etc.
Two: It's still a little early. The paycheck to paycheck crowd haven't maxed out their credit yet.

By mid to late summer, especially once Florida's and Georgia's massive second wave of --19 infections make the news, we should see the tree fall on prices.

Man, I'll trade my '02 CalStone for a few rolls of toilet paper!  j/k   My brother will be happy to hear about the DT-1 sale.  He recently picked up a later model DT250 in nice condition with a "stuck" engine for $400, except it wasn't stuck.  I rode it a few weeks ago!  He's already planning to roll it into the house as an art piece.  :thewife:

I had some money burning a hole in my pocket a few weeks ago and since I was bored not being able to work out of town I decided to look on Craigslist and found a few potentials.  One near the top of my list and close enough to check out was put off by the seller who was afeared to show it to me.  I told him the money was burning a hole, but that didn't matter.  When he contacted me that he was ready to meet, I had already spent that money in 3 different directions.

Agreed. Nothing more irritating than a seller who is "too busy" to sell.

, and won't buy the RE without a test ride to see how much vibration is truly in a non-counterbalanced thumper.

Give us a ride report on the RE.  Interesting bike.

Does the stone mean it is the base model like the V7 stone?

The gauge cluster is a definite improvement over the 75th anniversary on on BaT in the other thread.

Nice looking Great Pumpkin. I was torn between that color and the White until my dear wife saw one and said it looked like the guy had a pumpkin in his lap.

Best values ever I think for a new Guzzi 8 out the door new for an 1100. Had the aprilia fixes over the Jackal before they went and screwed up the 03s.

Wow! I don't like the vibe of the mirrors, but that's a lot of bike for cheap money, jmho.

The used cruiser market is flooded, bringing the price down on them all; there seems to be a lot of good deals on the odd guzzi gem in the mix.

Everyone has probably seen this one, already. I would almost drive to Cucamonga a couple thousand miles or so to get this. Maybe it is in really bad condition, but looks good for the money and gas is soooooooooooooooooo oo CHEAP!

Some dealers must be doing fine.  My local Indian dealer has two 100th Anniversary Scouts on the showroom since October/November.

So, they've been gathering dust for six months, now.  I've tried a couple times recently to strike a deal, to no avail.

They're sure they'll sell soon at $16,700 OTD.   If the past six months are any indication, me thinks they're dreaming!

They're selling all the $28,000 Challengers they can get, so I guess Scouts gathering dust don't mean much to the bottom line.

LOL!

Is this bike a hydro, Or was it made just before? I really like the color combo. It would look  even more killer with the short ,matte grey front fender from the Aluminum/Titanium.  :thumb:

'02 is solid lifter.

Model years '03-'04 were the only hydros, and only in Californias.

These deals are available so rarely in my part of the country.  I'd buy that thing tomorrow if it were within a couple hundred miles.
