. . . I don't think there is a lot to choose from in a 10W-60 fully synthetic . . .
I disagree, unless it's very different in the States?Plenty of choice on this side of the Pond.We have the choice of; Penrite 10-TenthsCastrol 'Edge'Mobil 1Petronas SeleniasLiqui-MolyPutoline N-Tech ProR+Millers CFSFuchs TitanValvoline VR1Gulf CompetitionGulf RacingShell Helix UltraRed Line High PerformanceMotul 8100X & 7100Elf HTX 860Total QuartzPlus a few other lesser known brands, all in 10W-60Also, unless you're constantly running in sub-zero temps, I wouldn't worry about using a 15W or 20W-60 Oil instead, so that gives even more options.Remember also, we don't need a Bike-Specific Oil in our Dry-Clutch Bikes, so you're not limited to 'Bike' Oils.
I tried the 10W60 LiquiMoly from AMAZON on my 35 year old California II. I did notice excessive blue smoke on start up after the oil change ... it was actually a thick blue cloud drifting over my farm fields! I thought maybe a broken piston ring, or loose valve guides. I continued to ride the bike, and 6 months later changed the oil to Motul Oil, and to my great surprise, no more blue smoke on start up!
