Italian Motorcycle Police Jacket
« on: April 26, 2020, 03:01:09 PM »
I can't find the original thread but I got mine today:

Got my jacket. The size runs true, no need to get a larger size. I'd say it's the highest quality motorcycle apparel I've ever owned. Top quality. Three quarter length. Really heavy liner, almost a jacket in itself. Armor installed. Even comes with its own hanger and garment bag cover.

The nits, are no vents, so it might be winter only? It's got those silly stars and left hand zipper. I can't wait to try it on the road.

Good to know, I ordered a large so I am now confident that the size will be OK for me.  Will see how warm it gets in the Summer.  I kinda like the stars, one of the reasons I got one.

The best part is that in the Sportsman's Guide advertisement, there's a V7 in the background.  But it doesn't appear to be a police bike.

I almost ordered the Italian police stuff...but it's no fun in isolation. Maybe for the national next year in New Hampster

Search "Italian police" and you get all the extras for the coat...white leather parade dress belts, holsters, gloves....

Handcuff holsters anyone?.....

A bunch of 2 starred Generals strutting around the camp fire barking orders!

Make that marshmallow softer, grill me a S'more faster young whippersnapper!

The jacket is nice quality, very heavy (at least with the sweater inside it), seems to be well built.

I had to test ride it.  Low 70s here and 20 mph wind, would guess more like 30+.

I took the liner out and did not snap the zipper fly.  There are pass throughs in the two front pockets, I have no idea if they are vents or what the purpose is.  Anyway, I found the jacket comfortable and breathable, just about perfect for the weather.  In fact it seemed so breezy that I am wondering if it really is waterproof.  I still wouldn't ride it in 90 degree weather but I think it's close to the same as my other (vented) textile jacket.  Buffeting was good.  I did about 80+ into that strong headwind and it was totally acceptable, then I noted that I hadn't cinched the sleeves down, so perhaps it's even better?

This is my first 3/4 riding jacket and could feel the back armor go all the way to my lower back.  I noticed the armor is much stiffer than the foam rubber stuff in my other jackets.

One note on the sizing, the jackets run standard size, so they are larger than the normal motorcycle jacket.  I usually wear a large tshirt,  XL jacket and 2X motorcycle jacket.  This 2x has plenty of room, I could have probably gotten by with an XL.  But I was able to cinch it with internal cords, in fact I got them a little tight and loosened them.

Nothing bad to say about it other than the little stars on the collar, otherwise it's neat, well made and functional.  I could see this being a $400 jacket.

I don't have access to a sewing machine right now (it's at work) but I'm hoping to remove the flappy bit of the collar and convert mine into a mandarin collar.  That will also take care of the stars on the collar that make me feel like a military wannabe or a drum majorette.  :)

magic marker?

The stars are metal, and attached to little squares of black cloth. Couple minutes with Mrs. larrys' seam ripper made short work of 'em. I've been wearing the liner as a jacket. Good to the low 40's F.

Today I took it out in 84 degree muggy windy weather.  Jacket was still acceptable, perhaps getting the larger size might help vent.  I did feel some heat on the sleeves in direct sunlight but still acceptable.  Normally I'd be wearing mesh today anyway.  I think it's my "go to" jacket now.

Regarding those stars, well, I am undecided about cutting them off.  When I wear my silver helmet with a "steal your face emblem" I can tell folks it's a "Grateful Dead US Blues Jacket"

At a Guzzi Rally I can say it's "Guzzi Squadron Commander Jacket".  It's a "Road General Jacket".

Meeting Harley guys I can say it's "The Uncle Sam Jacket (Patriot Commemorative Special Edition with Deluxe Piping and Dynamic Protection Jacket)".  Or perhaps the "Capt America Jacket (Easy Rider 50th Anniversary Wyatt Edition Jacket with Deluxe Piping and Dynamic Protection)".

It's a "Steve McQueen 1964 ISDT Commemorative American Team Jacket".

I am sure there all kinds of lies and tall stories that might motivate someone to keep the jacket unaltered.  And I haven't even considered sports teams.

A couple of other issues.  I found there are actually two back armors, one is a kidney belt  and can be removed from the lower panel and strapped on.

I was not able to find the hood.  I see snaps on the back of the jacket but I couldn't find it packed in the jacket or in the box.  Don't know where else to look.  I assume I didn't get it.

Can you share your comments on the sizing?
Concerned that it may be a true "Italian cut", which could be problematic for some of us big-boned specimens.

As I said earlier, they run large for motorcycle jackets and are normal size.  Plenty of room.  I purchased a 2X like most riding jackets and would be fine with XL.

I found the hood in a pouch on the inside of the back of the jacket. Have to move the liner out of the way to get to it.

Thanks, I thought it was another back protector.

Is there a way to mount the back protector in the jacket pouch instead of wearing it?

I rode with mine for the first time today, and concur that this is an excellent jacket, especially at the price SG is asking. I was concerned about the collar flapping around, but discovered that there is a little hidden Velcro strap that ties both halves of the collar together. The jacket breathes well, but does appear to be waterproof. I rode in a light drizzle, and the water just beaded up and ran off. I don't know how it would fare in a real downpour, but I don't usually ride if the weather is that bad. I liked it so much I immediately ordered a spare.

Personally, I like the collar with the stars. But then again, one of my favorite winter coats is a Soviet naval captain's wool greatcoat that I found at a Salvation Army store.
