muffler ideas. Jackal, cali stone, ev etc..
« on: May 10, 2020, 04:50:15 PM »
I have a 02 California Stone. I got it last year, and it had installed on it a Fast by Ferracci H pipe, and Lafranconi Competizioni mufflers on it. When I got it it ran vary poorly!  So Beetle sent a few maps and I got it to the point that I can ride it. Dont get me wrong, it sounds AMAZING!!  Really that combo is really one of the best sounding Guzzi's IMHO!  But....  It is a little loud....  Also it pops back a lot in decell. I know some of that can be tuned out, but also know a free flowing system sometimes just pops back..  So before I go farther with tuning, what are you all running for mufflers on your bikes? I do like it a little louder then stock. I love the growl of what is on there now, but I would like to tone it down a little bit. Anyone run stock mufflers with the aftermarket H pipe?? How is the sound? Any other after market mufflers louder then stock, but not as loud as the Lafranconi's??  Again love the sound but sometimes its just too much....   Ideas??  What have some of you other EV, Jackal, Stone owners use?

lots of stock ones taken off, they are pretty mellow, ask around in the swap meet.

Tried earplugs or a tighter full face? I've always felt easier when I can reduce the wind noise around my helmet and ears first...muffle out the world first w earplugs

Reduce the overall noise means less fatigue. Windshield can reduce a lot of effort and attention

Then those LaFranconi come in as a low steady drumbeat, thrumming along, while the stock pipes are barely there w earplugs. Your choice..

I'd pay dearly for any set of LaFranconi but since I'm a cheap guzzi guy I buy used from someone who thinks they are too loud...

I love them

A set of stock LaFranconi mufflers will sound good with a straight H pipe . The pre-muffler is the original crossover did about 80% of the muffling , have started my Jackal with the mufflers off but the stock crossover in place , it wasn't really much louder . Have installed the Staintunes that came with the Jackal on the Bassa with a straight H pipe , it is actually slightly louder than the Jackal running only thru the stock crossover .

Paul, following the example of RatGuzzi I put tractor mufflers on my 02 Stone. First I left the factory crossover but didn't quit have the effect I was looking for so I put an  H-pipe on it, much better sound. It's not too loud unless you get on it. I have a V-11 Sport map thanks to Antmanbee. I'm very happy with the sound and the performance, also following another example from Rat Guzzi I put 20mm ammo cans on it. If you can find some Hepco Becker bag mounts the cans are easy to install. The mufflers are for an Allis Chalmers WD45, you can find them a Tractor Supply or a similar type store. Here in Minn. we have Mills Fleet Farm one of my favorite places to shop.
Good luck with your quest.

Oh I agree I LOVE the sound!! They look amazing also! Thats why I am on the fence about this. I might look into finding a set of nice stock ones. If I find them cheap enough it might be good having them for trying, or just when I take long ride.

Dusty,
Good to hear that. Makes me think that the stock mufflers might do what I want. Not so much stock sound... but a little less then now. Thanks

On my 01 EV , I tried the Lafranconi comps. Too loud for my taste. I have the open h pipe and stock mufflers.  Sounds good to me. The stock crossover actually caused a hiccup at 3500 rpm.

Those 1100 series bikes came with Lafranconis that were not Competitione mufflers. I am putting a pair on my 850 T3. They are off an EV. Nowhere do they say Lafranconi on them. They are quieter than the Competitione ones. Incomparable low rumbling sound. They do not have any red on the backs either.

Interestingly enough, if you go to the MG Cycle site and to the 850 T3 windshield sourced from Italy the bike with the windshield mounted has the Lafranconi mufflers.

Thanks for all the info guys!!  Looks like im going to look for some stock mufflers to try out. As I said I LOVE the sound of whats on there now...  But some times its just a little too much. And I do a lot of small town riding also, and the loudness tends to make me short shift it a lot, and we know how the Guzzi's like to rev!
