alternative clutch hub nut option?

I can't remember if someone mentioned you can use a layshaft nut in place of the original 4 reverse-prong ring nut on the clutch hub.  I made a socket to remove it but 2 of the prongs on my homemade socket broke off.  if so, cut off the flange? what about a washer? use the star washer? Add blue Loctite?  same goes for the crankshaft I believe right? on my lemans it just had a hex nut and washer

Yes, you can use the same nut as on the output, just remove the flange, use medium strength threadlocker. I don't fit a washer.

I don't have a deep enough hex socket for the crank nut and am too cheap to buy one. I've already spent the $$ on the nice four pronged socket though.

Per MG Cycle, I started using the nut from the output shaft/layshaft, in the clutch hub. That nut has a 'flange' on it, that I grind off. I use the original locking plate PLUS a bit of loctite. Has worked well on at least three different jobs (maybe more, it is hell getting old).

I just had to drill and cold chisel off one of those original nuts yesterday, hence the snapping of my homemade socket. seems whoever put it on last also peened it in 4 spots where it met the clutch shaft. needless to say, that clutch shaft is now an art project unless I can run the threads thru a die large enough which I don't have

Beauty of output nut is soft “flange” to peen into recess to lock it, output shaft recess for speedo drive ball, input  groove for lock tab.
Photo not good example cos nut here is 2nd (or. 3rd or 4th) hand but proper Guzzi content, recycle forever
I did use tab washer as well here but every other (new) one I’ve used I just punched flange into recess to lock
Simple, quick and cannot come undone, tab only belt and braces, not necessary.
