EV electric fuel petcock
« on: June 02, 2020, 06:44:18 AM »
My EV petcock has broken wires on the solenoid.  Anybody have one to sell?  Or where do I find a manual one.

I'm going to Hamlin's soon and while I'm there switching out my working electric on Joe's Jackal for a manual.
You can have the electric cheap if you want it.

Hi Bob,

Broke the wire off my EV electric petcock during a recent disassembly. I had places to go and things to do and didn't want to wait. (Patience is often inverse to age) Used the Dremel tool with a ball type burr to cut away the sealing compound on the fuel solenoid coil. Turns out there was plenty of excess wire available to solder a sound electrical connection to the coil.

I then re-bedded the power wires in a new layer of epoxy. I added a bit of strain relief to reduce the chance of another failure.

Been working like a charm since. You have nothing to loose if you attempt a repair (except for irreplaceable time). You might just win.

I did stumble across a Google post where someone added some commercially available plumbing bits to the stock electric valve to convert it into a manual shut off while retaining the standard hose locations. Of course I can't find the instructions, but they are out there!

...or just switch to a MANUAL petcock from MG Cycle, like I did, then, no more worries about solenoid failures... :thumb:

Hi Bob, I replaced mine over 10 yrs ago with the mgcycle petcock.  Works like it should, one less worry.

Found it!
V11 Lemans Site c. 2011

"So I needed a manual fuel tap, but I didn’t even consider going to my deal because they are pretty worthless and never have a clue what they are talking about. Instead I amazingly found this little hydraulic needle valve (dynamic fluid components, p/n DKLN125N*1/8NPT brass needle valve), that once unthreaded from its housing threads perfectly into the v11 fuel tap!!! I did however have to turn a little radius on the tip of the needle to hold the o-ring, I used a machinist lathe, but you could do the same thing with a dremil if you have steady hands. I also used a little tread sealant on the threads just to make sure it would not leak and all my problems are solved, no more vapor lock issues and I now have a manual fuel tap/ petcock."

Thanks so much for all the responses and offers.  I do think I will go the manual route and see how that works out.

I can't endorse either one.  I've had the manual ones leak and come apart.  Right now, the one on my Sport has been changed out with a plumbing connector.  I found a cork with the approximate size to seal it when the tank comes of again.  I might replace it then with another factory one.
