Thanks to all, and NGC venting

First off, let me say that on the interwebs I doubt you’ll find a better group of folks. I know that sometimes the rules here can be annoying but really it helps to foster an overall pleasant experience that is getting rare these days. What brought on random thanks? Well, I had to search my other bikes forums for info on running sintered brake pads with the rotors on my bike. (Upshot, I’m running them and when rotors wear out replace with upgraded rotors)

In the course of searching for actual information and not just personal opinion I was reminded why I left those forums, and left those owners groups on FB. Jeez there is so much bull I was looking for my chest waders! People were actually flaming ones who stressed the importance of using primarily the front brake when stopping! Talking about how “back in the day” choppers and HD only had rear brakes and rear brakes are all you really need! SO FREAKING STUPID! Of course they only had rear brakes. They also had jockey shift! Cars also didn’t have seatbelts. Or crumple zones. Or disc brakes. We also used to believe that the earth was flat, and sneezes were the body ejecting evil spirits! I swear any time y’all get fed up with peoples foibles here just go hang out on a cruiser forum. It’ll make ya appreciate the folks here!

Sorry for the rant. I’ve been fed up with my fellow American big twin owners for a while. Just cause you ride one doesn’t mean you have to forsake your motorcycle IQ!

Thankyou for correctly using the term "jockey shift" not suicide shift!!! most of the POSER's on what they call choppers have no clue about a rocker clutch being converted to go with a jockey. I have EBC "HH" pads on 2 modern bikes and have gone through 2 sets on the Kwacker (frts) and a set on both ends on the Bonny and the rotors are fine. But I'm not Rossi and don't get to ride Hwy-60 or RT-180 but a few times a year!! Suches (TWO) my 2nd favorite place on earth, 1st a place in Bama!!
Not a Guzzi owner but have always dug them. $$  on Lemans always out paced my paycheck. My fav is a red frame & black body work!!
This is a great bunch here and I have learned mucho about the brand

Did someone mention countersteering ? :ev

The world is full of people who think they are experts on a given subject , usually because "uncle Bob" who owned a 1953 Hydra Glide for a few years and rode it "Oh gosh , 5,000 miles" told them that using the front brake will launch the rider over the bars . We have a thread dedicated to this type of nonsense if anyone still cares .

Yes , this place is populated mostly by folks who have "done it"

No problem. I appreciate old iron, and love Dale’s wheels thru time in Maggie Valley NC. Check it out if you’re ever in the area. Awesome collection, maybe better American wise than Barber. I grew up in North GA. My first job was in Helen and I learned to drive on those mountain roads. They spoiled me. I just about can’t abide a straight road. Excepting out west where it’s desolate like us on the east coast can’t comprehend. The roads in AL is cherohala(?) correct? Around the talladega National Forest? I live about 30-45 minutes from there in west GA. Holler if you ever want to go. I’ll get this Quota sorted one day or I’ll ride my victory.

Bodine, if you have South on Richard Russel as a must do, may I suggest starting in Helen, going up over Trey Mountain on Hwy 17/75, hang a left on Rt 180, go till you see the signs for Brasstown Bald, hang a rt and go up and back, it is a fee area but they don’t mind if you just turn around in the parking lot and head down again. Make a right back onto 180 to RR. That will give you the south route. Turn around at the bottom, go back north to rt 180, make a left to Rt 129. Make a left and take 129 up over blood mountain and just stay on 129 into Cleveland. Then back home. The above ride will take between 3-6 hours depending on speed, and stops. There are many overlooks with beautiful views. Helen and Cleveland both have some good restaurants with outdoor patio seating. If you’re riding with friends there are pull offs at the summits of the gaps so those faster can pull over and wait for the slower riders. If you go in the fall or on a weekend expect lots of slow moving tourists. If you’ve already done this ride and I just told you what you already know my apologies.

Oh and you can ditch blood mountain by making a Rt from 129 onto Rt 180 just before Vogel state park. That’s called wolf creek gap. 180 dead ends in Suches at TWO.

If you make a right after going south on RR, that road, alt 75, dead ends on Rt 129. Make a right to go up over blood mountain, then left onto 180 to go to Suches. From TWO go south/East towards Dahlonegah to go over Woody gap. That’s the six gap ride bc you ended up riding thru 6 mountain gaps, or passes, in one day. The six gap is all day ride.

Motorcycles have rear brakes?

The stupidity on open forums is outa control. At least all we have to worry about is the general old codger syndrome.
