A Centauro on Bring a Trailer
« on: July 28, 2020, 04:18:54 PM »
This should be an interesting 7 day auction.

Anyone here the seller?

Looks like a nice bike, no mention of any upgrade to the ECU (Creedon chip et al), or exhaust (Stucci or other crossover) or the plastic head temperature sensor replacement, all of which are necessary to make one of these run well.   If it really has only 500 miles, maybe that's WHY it only has 500 miles, Centauros were burping, hiccuping pigs "as sold" for EPA purposes.

Don't know why the later model adjustable bars would be gone ... the "1999 model" thing must be a '98 that came in late and was dealer-sourced as a '99 for registration purposes.

Hope someone gets it who can love and appreciate it; they're nice bikes when sorted, getting rare.  I enjoyed all my 35,000 miles on mine ....

I just saw this...yes, should be very interesting with *** NO RESERVE *** over the next week.

Did I read this right, only 500 miles? :shocked: :shocked: :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

I don't know how the mufflers would get discolored like that with 500 miles.

Likely the original fueling would discolor the pipes in well under 505 miles. As delivered, the fueling on the Centauro was worse than horrendous. Having the color matched fairing and chin spoiler is also a huge plus.

Yes, Centauros and Daytona RSs all have them, as do ‘98 1100 Sport Corsas - which weren’t sold in the US.  Like the Odyssey battery and some other American stuff, probably an artifact of John Wittner’s role at the factory at that time.

Even those insane bar risers?  Jeeze that has got to be the ugliest motorcycle ever made in factory, and a strong contender for ugliest including custom built choppers, baggers, extended-swingarm sport bikes and assorted other nonsense

Several of my expert Guzzi buddies are now questioning whether that bike indeed has 500 original miles...?????

* Discoloration on the exhaust...???
* Maybe a replacement speedometer...???
* Maybe other unknown or disclosed issues...???

Now maybe your Centauro was different, but my Centauro's stainless single-wall exhaust starting turning lovely heat colors the first time it came up to operating temperature ... yellow, blue, greenish.   It never corroded, just turned colors.

As far as the speedometer or "undisclosed issues", ANY motorcycle for sale can have those.  I still think that, given that the bike apparently has not had an engine control or fuel flow upgrade, 500 miles is about all anyone could stand to ride one..... :violent1:

Thats a lot of discoloration on the pipes for 500 miles.....I get the head pipes will have some quickly, but the exhaust cans are very discolored too

THe exhaust pipes look normal. Stainless steel is not chrome and despite the name corrodes to this level quickly when the bike is run.  It’ll polish off with some elbow grease but it takes effort to maintain.

This bike looks brand new to me, matching the 500 miles on the odometer.  There must be a story as to why it was never used, it’d be interesting to know and probably raise the level of interest in the auction.

Have you ridden a bone stock Centauro?  :grin: I test rode one, and wasn't sure I'd make it back to the dealer.. but I *knew* it could be fixed.

Based on the give-and-take between the seller and others in the Comments section of the listing, the seller knows Centauros, and this particular bike, very well. He also seems very up front in what it takes to get a Centauro to run well as well as what's been done -- and is still needed -- on this bike. Given all of this, I'd say it could be a very good bike if the buyer has his eyes open and wits about him.

You're right.   I didn't look at the comments until you said something.   I agree that this would be a good bike for someone wanting a Centauro.    Do the airbox, the crossover, the remapping, the cylinder temperature sensor, and be prepared for the oil pump mods down the road, you'll be into it for about $1000 over the purchase price, and could have a really nice bike!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t a Strada 1000, essentially a Mille, sheeps clothing?
