Yeah, I hope the rider is not severely injured?

To me it looks like the motor is askew related to the frame?
In which case it's not a "plain" overturn during off road riding, but a crash -

Hoping for the best!
Primarily for the rider, but if the frame is bent I feel sorry for the bike - - - -

Bummer. Likely a total by the insurance company. For that to happen, there could easily be unseen damage as well.

We need the story behind this... doesnt seem 'layin her down' at any speed would tear the jug off the side of the engine? was this a near miss of head-on collision? Clipped a guardrail or retaining wall at speed? What happened?

It was a side impact from a Ford Explorer. The cylinder assembly is broken off the cases. My injuries are severe.

Sorry to hear you are injured. Had the same issue last week on my KTM. As the days go by I keep finding new areas of pain. I did not go to the hospital, which in hindsight was a pretty stupid decision.

Hoping for a swift recovery.

Many years ago I was riding my CB500/4 through the Housatonic Valley with my friend Stu, riding his brand new R75. In the late afternoon the flickering light through the woods seems to have induced a kind of seizure. Stu went off the road on the right, up an embankment and ran the right handlebar and cylinder into a tree. Stu wound up lying on his back on the pavement, stunned and bruised but no bones broken. The bike landed a few feet away. The right cylinder was bent back about 80 degrees, held on only by two bend studs. Never saw anything like it. Had to assume that Stu came off the bike before it hit the tree.

In 1979 I was pillion on an R100/7 and we hit a car coming towards us. Took the RH cylinder ( we drive on the left ) off the bike and the front wheel off the car. Both of us walked away with minor grazes.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Some informed opinions. Take your prescribed medicine. Follow the instructions of the physical sadists, err, therapists. Talk to a good lawyer. I trust insurance companies as far as I can throw a Mack truck.

I hate this for you, but wish you well. As mentioned by Georgia guzzi, start doing what you can to counter the pain meds. Constipation is not your friend.

Thanks for the well wishes. Recovery time will be many months, possibly years, my immediate goal is to walk to a toilet and wipe my own butt, that is likely to take a few months.

Back in the day, my first 6 mths of riding a street bike, an old lady in a parking lot, going 5 mph ran into my right side putting my ankle and the brake lever through the engine cover of my KZ400; in hind sight, I should have taken better care of myself after a relatively minor surgery on my ankle.

That looks like it was a nasty accident, glad you're still here with us, please take good care of yourself.

Concentrate on you getting better; if need be, when the time is right, a lawyer may be able to help you dealing with insurance etc going forward, .
