guzzi racing at gingerman

for those who may be interested here is a link to my recent race at Gingerman in Michigan:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80Fh-eYiRsM
Finally racing re-started for the year, some restrictions and no spectators obviously. Anyway a bad start saw me leave last, except for the guy who stalled in front of me! Managed to work through to the front to battle with a BMW, ended up second.

Fun! Who were the 3 bikes that zoomed through there, a different class?

Sweet! Looks like you have substantially more motor than the other bikes. Is that why you started at the back? Handicapped start? Later braking, too. Both big plusses!

My bike is an 850 lemans from 1979, upgrades would be frame bracing, a B10 cam, 40mm carbs, 17 inch wheels, 40mm Guzzi California forks, and modern suspension tech. The three fast bikes are modern twins so they are probably about twice the HP and yes, a different class, they took off before us and were gone by the time this video starts, so they were coming back around to lap us. My bike was dynoed at 63HP, but being a big twin (relatively) it pulls well out of the corners giving me an edge. I am down on peak HP against the fours so halfway down the straight they start to gain on me but good Guzzi brakes also helps a going into the turns. I f I can get into the slip stream of a four after catching them coming out of a corner I get a great run. It's great fun but the occasional crash does happen.

Do you have any pics to share? I'd like to hear about the Cali forks, do they stick up above the top triple clamp? Because aren't they longer than the Lemans forks?
Also frame bracing.. we all want to see some pics.
Next time you can take that BMW just get ahead of him sooner and pour it on.

The California forks are longer, they need to be to make up for the 17 inch wheels, they still stick up half an inch.

Nice video, pity the BM got you on the last lap as you did well to catch and pass him initially.
Ciao

I was out on a ride a few days ago. At a lookout rest stop a guy came up to me and told me he hadn't seen a Guzzi in awhile. He said he used to race a BMW but the only bike he could't beat was a Guzzi.
