Had a Rc8R for a short time. Guy needed money, so I bought it and flipped it. Basically a track bike, they do sound good. Fast, but not as fast as the zx14R.

I think a lot of folks like them for the same reasons people like or liked early Guzzi's- they are fun to ride and use high quality components.  I think Guzzi has slipped in that latter category in the last couple of decades.   I have a KTM 350exc (enduro) and it is an absolute hoot to ride.  Way better bike than I am an off road biker.  White power suspension, brembo brakes, dirt simple (see what I did there).  I've no complaints about reliability- it just runs.

do a test ride on a 1290 superduke, and you will  understand why people buy KTM's , they are thinly disguised competition machines, just like the ducati 851 was.
KTM started making competition machines , and their current offerings still are performance orientated.
not bikes to run on a tight budget.
KTM is all about the performance , with the running cost to match.
you want a reliable all rounder, buy a honda.
you want mind blowing performance, get the superduke or the aprilia tuono
these things are seriously mental.

i had a couple of KTM singles, going from a KTM to a KLR is like trading your ferrari for a ford transit.
