Plexifairing 3 Windshield on 2000 Jackal
« on: October 06, 2020, 08:33:04 PM »
National Cycle Plexifairing 3 Windshield Fairing - Part # N8613-01  - and (according to National Cycle) will not fit this bike.

According to Dan in NC, it will fit.  And thanks, Dusty, for the windshield fitment lesson on the Cali series.

It fits like it is, but the lower section is a bit close to the lower fork legs, and probably should be trimmed to the outside to allow the bottom to tilt  in towards the fork legs a little more - and this will allow a little more clearance between the windshield and the turn signals.  Or  cut some two-inch holes directly behind the turn signals.  It'll work the way it is, but if it needs to be tilted one way or another, then there will need to be some modification.

Looks good buddy👍 I may end up with one in the Stone as I really like that shield as I’ve had four of them over the years. 👍
Give us a review after you ride with it attached a it a bit.

'98 V11EV with PlexiFairing 3. Too wRm in the summer but nice the other 3 seasons.
I opened the bottom slot to clear the triple tree and shortened the top so I was looking over the fairing at distances beyond 30 feet.
Its a quiet and dry environment that creates a bit if a vacuum that pulls some engine heat over the driver. Great for touring.

I'm quite happy with the National Cycle F-15 Touring windshield I put on my Stone. It replaced a medium sized Guzzi windshield that was damaged in a laydown. Although the "Touring" designation might be a bit optimistic,  the F-15 gives noticeably better protection than the factory shield. Installation was easy and it fits around that big 8" headlight nicely.

Yours is mounted a fair amount higher than mine.  That's something I hadn't thought of.

Mounting height was chosen to put the grips vertically centered in the grip bulge of the fairing. Bars are custom so height might be different.

Rode it cross country and back last year. Got my share of bugs on it!

I used a Plexifairing 3 on my California, and later on my EV. I liked them, and probably put well over 100,000 miles on them.
BUT, the rumbling and turbulence were always annoying.
I eventually switched to a Swanee, and it is SO much quieter. I tried all kind of tricks on the Plexifairing and could never get rid of the turbulence. I suspect it needed a big hole in it to let some fresh air flow behind the windshield.

Just back from a mixed 2-lane/interstate 40 mile ride and am pleased with this windscreen.  Some minor tweaks are in order, but that's it.

I'm 5'9" with a 29" inseam.  You taller guys would maybe want to raise this one up some.  It's nearly perfect for my size.  Doesn't need any additional lower wind deflectors, either.

I tried the Plexi 2 several times on my Jackal.  never could quite get the buffeting and wind roar down to an acceptable level.  Good for you that you made it work.  I would have liked to use mine.

I have either purchased or fabricated lower wind deflectors on virtually every motorcycle I have ever owned.  This Flexifairing 3 has that built into the windshield, so I'm not getting any wind from up and around the tank.

I looked at those shorter models like the Plexi 2, but I figured that if this one didn't fit, then I could always cut it down until it DID fit.   lol

Throwing this into the discussion.  A Jackal need a windscreen that has the bulge for the single gauge vs the Cali which has the dual gauge pod.  Difference on the windscreen fitment.  This is often overlooked.

Don't know on this one.  I have a National Cycle Plexistar II & III.  They should fit but you can check on a website somewhere.

Right.  My Jackal has been modified and has the two, and this one has a big enough "bubble".

I think I have the Plexifaring II on mine.  Someone told me the III was too hot.  Anyway, I like the II quite a bit, I don't get the turbulence others are talking about, but then again windshields are a very person specific item..

I have used the plexi 2 and 3 for decades and have never noted any unusual or excessive “turbulence” just a calm pocket of air.

As I searched, the Shadow 750 is listed as N8803-01.  So there is already some confusion.

Forgive me for this old topic.  I'm trying to get my '98 EV together after a recent spill.  I'd like to get a Plexifairing 3 for it.

Just running a sanity check regarding the right one.

It’s been over 10 years ago and I don’t want to tell you something wrong that would cause a problem if you order one but to the best of my knowledge here’s what my situation was.

I had a 2004 cali EV and wanted a plexi 3 for it because I had had a couple of them on other Honda bikes over the years.
A guy who was working at the business where I was trying to buy the plexi, that was assisting me in finding a shield that would fit the cali EV, knew where one was at near him.
He took the plexi 3 designed for the 1999 Honda Shadow and fitted it to the EV and it fit perfectly.
The only thing that had to be changed for the fitting process  from the Honda to the EV was the fork clamps on the EV had to be bigger than the Honda fork clamps, I can remember the MM size.
When it came in it fit perfectly with no
Detailed modifications necessary, to the best of my memory.
Hope this helps.

Where it got interesting for me was the fact that National makes a number of variations that are all labeled PlexiFairing 3. They have different bends and cutouts  I know the one on my T3 is distinctly different then the one on my EV. They both required some cutting to fit.

Plexi3 is the design with lowers.
There are different configurations for headlights and instrument arrangements.

I have the Plexi 2 on my 98 EV ,the one with the shorter lowers, and its great. I replaced the Guzzi "barn door" which had some crazy distortion, especially when looking down at the ground in front of the tire.  It made it difficult when negotiating uneven, gravelly, parking lots and such.  National cycles mounting system works real well on the big Guzzi.

I have a plexi fairing2 that someone’s is welcome to if they want to cover the shipping.
It will need all the hardware as well as replacing the stick on brackets on the back of the shield.
It’s an older one but has only minor scratches and it’s a look over do a few scratches won’t hurt the function any.
Just PM if interested.
