That's nice.   In the real world, Centauros sell for anywhere from $3500 to $5000.   On BaT (the "Moe's" of auction sites) it might go for $10,000 - who can tell?

After watching some of the BaT shit bidding that happens on that site, I am going to speculate $12,750.

What exactly is wrong with Guzzi's fetching more money on BAT?

Should the owner post it on MGNOC Classified and settle for $3K and that would be after all the high pocket whining about the price?

My prediction on BaT is that this one, which is a nice example,  will go $6000-$6500...or maybe higher?

I’m not saying that there is anything “wrong” with Guzzi’s selling for more money.

What my post attempted to convey, is that many vehicles, Datsun's, Mazda’s, Porsche’s etc., are sometimes bid, way beyond market reality. That’s all.

I sent these two links to my brother who owned both of these Datsun's when new and of course he couldn't believe those prices but times change and eBay isn't always the place to sell such vehicles.  I'm glad that Guzzi's have gotten a premium price on BAT and compared to Ducati's they are relatively cheap even at the higher prices.

Nothing wrong with it ... it's just that it seems to be some sort of "Alternative Reality" or "Parallel Universe" in the world of selling bikes.

Like "Moe's Cycle Garden".    Two Loopframes - one in "Our World", really nice condition, ready to go, shiny and bright, $8000 asking, sells for $7500.   Same bike that LOOKS (subjective) and undoubtedly FUNCTIONS (objective) the same on "Moe's" - $28,500 asking, sells for who knows what, because no one we know has ever bought one of those.   Or sold one.

That brings up the question of "Has anyone here ever sold a bike on Bring-A-Trailer?"   The bikes that are deemed worthy for sale seem to sell for two or three times what they trade for in the world I live in, ones I've bought and sold, anyway.   Is that what folks' experience is?

Lannis,

A few months ago, I submitted my 1983 Le Mans III to BaT, and it was just accepted (apparently BaT does not accept every vehicle).  Due to the fact that we are entering fall, I may not put it up, until next March.

....

Nope, I wouldn’t take it at half the price..
The headlight is incorrectly aimed, no bloody good.....
BTW. What is the conventional wisdom behind wrapping the pipes ? It reminds me to going out to dinner with Angelina Jolie and winding  a bloody great bandage around her face..! The side on shot looks reminiscent of a Hyabusa..

sdcr,  could you share some details of what all it entails to list a bike on BAT? I see it takes a few months to get "approved". what about cost, photos, etc.
Thanks,
Rick.

BaT charges $99 for the listing.  You submit photos and some background info. If/when accepted you typically supply additional photos and info. They write the ad and submit it to you for approval or corrections.  Buyer pays fees 5% I believe and BaT puts you in contact with the buyer to conclude payment and sale details.
Last January at mecum auction a Centauro only brought a 2500 bid if I recall. It didn’t make reserve......

Rick,

DsrDave pretty much covered it.

As a seller and buyer, they have access to your CC. When I bid, they put a charge hold, at 5%. If you don’t win the vehicle, it gets released.

I don't need any kind of bike at any price bad enough to transact in THAT environment!   It's just so much easier and more pleasant to deal with people I already know ...

I tried to list my 1100 sport, got rejected, they don't give a reason. They offer a $250 professional photo shoot, maybe that's what it takes.

I hope the buyer knows how to work on that bike and can obtain all the parts needing to keep it running.

Or alternatively, just keep it one display.

What is the silver, red frame Guzzi, behind the Daytona RS?

Centauros aren't bad to work on.   They have much of the every-Guzzi simplicity of valve-adjustment and such; they've got the PITA of a dry longitudinal clutch that even a Loop has, and the watch-outs like the fueling, oil pump, and timing gears are well known and documented, and once they're sorted, they're sorted.

Mine was a solid, easy-to-live with motorcycle.  But you're right, the new owner will need to be "into" it a bit and connected with other Centauro and spine-frame guys, and not just think it's a Suzuki ....

Surprised that the seller of the Centauro, did not replace the cracked headlight. It would be just one less thing for the commenters on BaT to bitch about.

Funny, BaT accepts a lot of pedestrian bikes like the  Honda Night Hawk that listed today. These will get a lot of positive comments, and get bid up quickly, but a rarity like Centauro isn’t get much love.
