V9 Roamer Center Stand Install
« on: October 23, 2020, 09:08:54 AM »
This is the Hepco Becker center stand on a 2017 V9 Roamer.

The installation is straight forward, except that the spring gave me an unusual amount of trouble.

They recommend the purchase of an optional grab handle, which aids
in lifting the bike onto the stand.  I agree with this recommendation.  It's a bit tough, for a small bike.

We now have four bikes with center stands.  They make it much easier for cleaning and maintenance.  Plus, it's nice to see them standing up straight !

Center stands and engine guards - two things I’m willing to add extra weight to a bike for!

Concerning the leverage, you might also consider applying some physics theory and modifying the kick lever. I chopped my kick lever in some after getting rid of the left side exhaust, and found that in doing so, and pivoting the mount point slightly, I ‘ve gained slightly better leverage than I had before. Almost makes me feel like I knew what I was doing when I thought it might work. But I admit I’m a little more Edison than I am Tesla when it comes to making things work—I have to try and tweak things multiple times before realizing what actually works.

kballowe -- MotoMachines said the V9 lifting lever would fit the frame of my V7 III ... which it did but the Stone's side covers extended out into the finger space shown in the V9 picture because the V9 side covers are flat.  I've purchased longer screws so I could space the lever out but I have my doubts it will work.  So should I put the lever up for sale -- Moto Machines price, free shipping, no tax?

I can get one delivered for $55, so If you're willing, then I would take yours.

In the meantime while you are waiting on handle assist check out the cheater board under the rear tire. Makes it almost a one handed operation.

kballowe -- $55 delivered is a great deal, cheaper than Moto Machines without shipping.  Go for it.  I'm still seeing if I can make the lever work with my Stone.

MotoG5 -- the Givi V7 tail rack has different lines than your Givi V9 rack so it's easy to grab it and pull the motorcycle onto the center stand.  Especially compared to the Norge  I got the lifting lever because, like kballowe said, it was recommended ... for V9s.  Oh well not my first or worst mistake.

When I ordered the HB center stand for my V9 I didn't order the optional lift handle thinking that the rack would provide a good hand hold. Turned out that it did not work out for me. I could get the bike up using the rack as a grab handle but it was not easy. As I really only wanted the center stand for maintenance work I could not see spending the money for the handle. I just use a board under the rear wheel. In my opinion the center stand is a must for safely doing things like valve adjustments and tire changes. Not to mention oil and filter changes.

Those center stand springs are easy. I clamp one end in the vise nice and good, and using a rod for leverage, extend it and stick 1/4 inch washers in the coils, usually about 5-6 washers. Now it's long enough to put over the pins it hooks on. Just pull the washers out with pliers one at a time. Done.
