Motorcycle Consumer News - Still Lives?
« on: November 27, 2020, 07:16:38 AM »
I received an email the Motorcycle Consumer News (MCN) has been bought by 2Wheel, a cycle company that's new to me.

They report that'll resume publishing, but no details.

Here's the press release:    https://www.2wheel.com/blog/2wheel-motorcycle-consumer-news-press-release/?__s=jdtrvj0tyourdyksyiyw&utm_source=Drip%20BroadCast&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=MCN+To+MCN&utm_content=Announcement%3A+Motorcycle+News+Consumers+Has+Been+Acquired+By+2Wheel+%26+We%27re+Bringing+It+Back%21+

Boy I sure hope it is sooner rather than later to bring MCN back. I really miss it.

First they repeatedly proffer “no advertisements”, then this:

Limited advertising, except where applicable in recommending and encouraging individuals to purchase items through 2Wheel; this type of advertising may include offers for discounts or promotional plugs for exclusive, reader-only offers from 2Wheel

Time will tell, but I’m not assured of a resurrection of MCN.

This is a response to Common Tread, RevZilla's impressive entry into motorcycle media. They've hired some motojournalists who achieved notoriety writing for now-defunct magazines, notably Ari Henning, Zack Courts and Mark Gardiner.

The object is to present entertaining content with just one corporate sponsor -- the retailer whose logo appears on every page. I guess a large retailer is more independent than a publisher who sells advertising directly to manufacturers. It's certainly an effective way to build customer loyalty.

I'll be more impressed when the new MCN announces its staff of writers and editors.

I especially remember reading Cycle World magazine.... for many years.  Never subscribed to Motorcycle Consumer News though.

I'm sorting out maybe 15 years of recent MCN's for a new rider.  Copping some of the product tests, however.  I was turned on to some interesting tools and valuable info over the years.  Miss MCN.
