21st of December
« on: December 21, 2020, 05:32:16 AM »
For those who have not heard this song, it is an Australian Christmas classic.

It is by an Australian artist called Paul Kelly and is called "Who is going to make the gravy"
Have a listen and you will see the significance of the date.

Songs composed and preformed well, sounds a little like Bob Dillon style, but I have no idea what the significance is with the 21st of December. Full free to enlighten us.

The song's protagonist writes his letter on 21 December, hence why Gravy Day falls on the same day.

Sorry for not explaining the meaning of the date. The second line of the song is "It's the 21st of December, and now they're ringing the last bells "

As fotoguzzi pointed out, the date has earned the name Gravy Day.

As for the rest of the song, I will let the individual be the judge. Personally I find it touching and thought provoking and shows a different side to Christmas, but then I like a number of Paul Kelly's songs such as "Dumb Things", "To her door", "My mothers voice", "Deeper water", "Firewood and candles" and the list goes on.

Although we live ten miles away from any town the back lighting may have been a bummer factor. Not too impressed, especially considering all the hype.
