V7III Top speed test

I also tested my 2016 Norge yesterday but the wind was blowing hard and backed off the gas at 118 MPH because it was too dangerous ...

The number on the ticket will be exaggerated when the officer realizes that a more accurate method is not available.

I have seen 200 kph on my Norge a couple of times registerd  on the GPS, but I think it was close to, or actually flat out. I choose not to do it again and probably should not have, but there you go anyway.
Norge speedo’s are pretty darn good actually.
BTW..
Are those two bikes 2VPC or 4 VPC..?

I hit the ton once on my 2010 Cafe Classic.  That was an experience. 

I hit 115 on my loaded for touring Kawasaki Versys 650 and then realized I was still in 4th.  LOL!

My Kawasaki Concours would hit 120 in a short stretch of straight back road.  That bike was insane.  Felt like you could do 120 for hours while the Cafe Classic felt like one wrong twitch and it was all over.

That's a good choice! Though I went to the trouble of mounting my phone on my handlebar to use it when I was checking the top speed of my Buccaneer, I'd like to point out you can just turn it on and leave it in your pocket and look at the top speed after you stop. Easy as can be.

EDIT: To get readings that will be more useful to other people you should do a two-way average on a level stretch of road, to cancel any wind effects.

I should have mentioned just leaving it in your pocket for max speed.

FWIW: Many moons ago, Loop police speedo, 2 up, 850 police dressed, 110mph on a straight desert highway. 90mph came pretty quick, then took what seemed like forever to get to 110 in 5th. Felt like it would still pull a bit more, but a curve was coming up. Per GPS Now, speedo is within 1 mph at 70mph.

On a nice almost calm day took my 2011 8V with side & top cases on to 140 indicated on the speedo on a private 7,000' runway. I would guess an actual speed of low 130s. It was still pulling just a bit when I ran out of room. Handling felt rock solid just as if I was interstate speeds cruising.

On both bikes I hit my top speed before either bike hit it's top speed.

Fastest on my 2010 T100 was 110mph. That was pretty much all it had. I hit 120mph on my 2012 Stelvio and I think it had a little more but I was running out of road. Not sure I want to hit those speeds again. 85-95mph is just fine. I did hit 100mph on my daughter's 2016 V7II but I wasn't trying to top it out as it was on the way home from the dealer.

no ticket on that road.   it's america's autobahn.  speed limit is 90 mph (at the southern bumpy part, oddly).  never enforced to my knowledge. 

I was going south of COTA running about 100 on the Greenie, heading to Lockhart for BBQ.   Hitting those dips through the drying rain on the road.  I was passed by a couple of TX Troopers on Beemer bikes.  Of course, I wicked it right up.

I'm sure they'd stop you at 120+ if they cared to.  Of course, it's a toll road, and bypasses Austin's most awful and terrible traffic, they don't want to discourage those toll fees.

OK, for speed stories, after I got my 1200 Bandit, I made a habit of hitting triple digits nearly every time I rode it.  I'd guess the speedo was 10-15% off.  So I was probably running 85-95.   I ran an indicated 135 more times than I remember and did that frequently on a stretch of road to work.  The bike felt solid at 135, like I could ride from home to California.  A couple of times I ran it up to indicated 145, maybe a real 130, now that got my attention.  If didnt feel so planted.

With the Guzzis and Duc, not so fast.  I remember Darren and me were running in Texas, I passed a truck on my Duc and saw 120+ passing.  I've done that a few times, the Duc's speedo is electronical set 95% of indicated (said in the manual and verified by GPS phone). A little too much risk any more, cops everywhere and traffic.  I like a good pace now and run with the curves.  I'll occasionally wick it if the coast is clear or hit it when I pass.

I did not use a stop watch but it got to 100 in about 14-15 sec. 100-110 took a long time.....

That's interesting I seem to remember that the warning stickers on the cases on my Breva 1100 said that they would detach and fly off into the undergrowth at any speed above 75MPH

My Yamaha would do 98 MPH in first gear.



That said, the Breva 1100 @ 70 is much more enjoyable, No 80 MPH wheelies /etc...

I, riding my SP once followed a CT State trooper on his police bike from E. Hartford to Colchester on Rte. 2. 'Bout twenty miles or so. I stayed about a quarter mile back while he ran 80's to 90's the whole way. That was fun!

Twenty years ago, 220 kph (indicated) flat out on the Autobahn south of Munich riding an R1100S, and I was being passed by other bikes.

I never had the nerve or the reason to take my V7C over 80 mph.
