Goodbye Stanley....
« on: February 27, 2021, 06:22:38 PM »

Stanley was our Big Boy cat of 15.5 years. Always friendly, loved our other cats and became a favorite cat to our 2 year old grand daughter.

I was out in the garage yesterday waiting for Laurie to arrive home. We walked into the bedroom to find Stanley on Laurie's side of the bed (his favorite spot). Laurie knew something was wrong when she didn't hear his familiar welcome home meow.

My daughter had just seen him a few hours before this and everything seemed fine.

We think he must have had a stroke or heart attack.

We are saddened at his passing but he had a good life. He adopted us (as all of our furry friends) and was quite the "gentle giant"! Just hope he didn't suffer and passed while napping.

Give your pets an extra hug or two...we never know when they will leave us....

Your initial post is a worthy tribute to how much your long time pet and much loved family member meant to everyone.  I am sorry to hear of your loss.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that.  This goes for cats, too:

So sorry to hear. Have had a number of cats over the years. Most were great pets, a couple I could have done without. Just lost our dog last Monday. Never easy.

Very sorry for your loss.  Again, pets are members of the family, and it is always sad when they pass on...Sounds like he led a good life at 15.5 years...and he passed away peacefully in his favorite spot.

Sorry to hear about your family's loss.

I lost my cat (siamese) bit more than year ago. Got it as I was 6. I do not remember much time/life before it. It slept all nights in the end of my bed, ''studied'' with me all my school years etc. I have not taken any new pet, and I do not know will I (or when).

I definitely understand that thought process Ms Fox. However sometimes I believe a Higher Power assigns us to the animal to care for. I know because I’ve got a 14 year old disregarded little girl now that wife and I have been caring for since 4 weeks when she was dumped.

I have been around cats and dogs most of my life. They come and they go, it's just the nature of things.
We have a 15 year old male cat. Got him as a feral kitten, he likes to be outside but when it's nasty the cat hangs around inside..
Watch this short video, my wife is talking to him, a true gentleman, he waits to be invited.....

Awwwww.

Sorry to hear that, but the important thing is that he had a good, long life.  My relationships with cats have been very important to me, and when they die...ouch.

Sorry if it's too soon to say it, but there's another fuzzy dude out there somewhere that needs you.

When my previous cat, Maximum, died, I wrote a couple pages worth of memories of him.  Stuff that was unique about him.  Such as, asking him 'wanna go for a ride'?  He'd always want a car ride with me, and would sit patiently while I put his harness/leash on him.  While I was out doing errands with him along, if I said 'go to the park?', meow meow meow!...and he'd get to go for a walk.  I still have it on file, and in the last ten years have looked at it only once or twice.  Doing it was the important part.

People that don't have pets or haven't had a cat pal have to think this is nuts.  But it ain't.

I just ment that I have not been looking for any. Not yet anyway.

Type of thinking: pets comes and goes ... even as being someway realism ... does not feel to fit with one I lost. That was far more and felt too painful.

Maybe one day.

Very sorry for your loss. Cats can be super awesome. You just have to have the right cat and treat them well. I had a huge old Maine Coon cat when I was a boy that had been raised with German shepherds when he was young. He actually thought he was a dog! He'd come when you called his name, loved playing ball and would follow me on my paper route all over the neighborhood. I remember being upset for a couple weeks after he passed. We lost our almost 19 year old Siamese this last Fall. He took his time going down hill, so no surprise, but he never seemed to suffer. A very laid back, loving and cool cat. He was relaxed and happy to the end. We've had up to five cats in the house at a time, like when we watch them for family when they travel. Funny thing is they have ALL loved our old pitbull mix dog. Its like they sense immediately that she is a very gentle old soul. Thank you for giving him an awesome home all those years. You made a huge difference in his life!
yeah, I might be addicted to brake fluid. But I can stop any time I want.

I do believe that cats choose you. I was on a foreclosed farm property with a realtor fifteen years ago. The people had been gone for four months. As we were walking the property, we heard meowing and this ratty looking orange tom comes out of the high grass. I asked the realtor about the cat and she told me that his name was Arthur and that his humans had abandoned him. I asked if I could have him and she said sure. I went there after work with a bag of cat kibble, sat on the back steps and called him. He came running, and dove into the bowl of kibble. He was alternating between eating and rubbing on me like I was his long lost buddy. Next day I went back there with a cat carrier, fed him and brought him home. I let him loose in my office so if he freaked out he would be confined to one room. He climbed out of the carrier, looked around the room like, OK this is where I live now, and that was it. He was my shadow and my lap boy for ten years. I know in my heart, that he knew I saved him.

Sorry to hear this Jeff. There seem to be a lot of animal lovers in our midst and we all understand how painful this can be.

Take comfort in that you gave Stanley a great life and perhaps you will be able to provide a great home for another animal when the time is right.
