For Vintage Triumph Fans
« on: March 07, 2021, 10:47:42 PM »
I am pretty stoked today!  After sitting at my place in boxes for 11 years, and then before that laying in bits in a pole barn for about 30 years, it is most satisfying to have this 1955 Triumph T110 engine together!

Dang you Dave!!!!

Seeing this engine makes me want to put my 6T powered back together. But I did modify it a bit. 9 bolt upper end, unit crank with modified LH case for the new bearing and to be able to use bearing shells on the rods  instead of replacing a rod.

I do think about the external oil lines on the iron heads, I miss the idea, but a 9 bolt upper is a decent way to go unless your after a full exact restoration.

Sweet!!!!

I built and then owned this sort of stock 53 6T for many years.

Old Triumphs have old brakes. I found the original front disk on my 79 to be inadequate....It was not difficult to adapt a 320mm Ducati disc an caliper to the Honda Interceptor front forks I previously fitted. The cast wheels are stock Triumph on this model...

Dave,
Such a beautiful engine, nice work as usual.  I too have a thing for the Pre-Unit Triumphs, they just stir the soul.  My last was a '56 T100 many years ago.
I have owned a ton of others since, mostly Units and I keep myself somewhat satisfied with a handful of later Triumphs now, T160, T140V and a Daytona.

All the best on the remainder of the build.
Rob

Rough Edge,
Lovely 6T.

It should!  It was overhauled by the esteemed Douglas Wood (along with the dynamo).

Love these ole British bikes. The first Triumph I ever road was a 70 Bonnie. I can remember I kept gearing it down without the clutch due to the shifter being on the wrong side. I use to rewind the part in the movie Coogans bluff time and time again to watch the chase screen:)
Please keep the pictures coming as the work progresses 👍

British bikes are like cross country motorcycle rides.  Romantic and gorgeous in the planning and remembrance, but a long string of inconveniences and discomforts when happening.

Riding a vintage Brit bike is motorcycling in the raw....It is not for everyone..But those who have flogged one down a country road know the feeling. The fact we are discussing them  nearly half a century after the last one was manufactured says a lot..

Well, I do not miss the excessive maintenance required to have a Brit bike as a daily rider. Kinda like a helicopter, one hour in the air, log book with red X's every flight, four hours in the hangar.

Beautiful job. I worked in a bike shop 1970-72 and Triumphs were our main business. Most of what I knew back then is far back in my memory. I always look past photos for information and was happy to see I'm not the only person aware of the value of Clover grinding/lapping compounds. I discovered them when I needed to lap a set of too tight Sifton cam gears in a Sportster 40+ years ago and have found them indispensable in my shop.
