V85TT with Caponord fender
« on: May 09, 2021, 09:18:59 AM »
Hey V85ers....

A few weeks in to my V85TT, really enjoying it after its 2nd day break down. Ive seen a few posts that mentioned the Caponord fender and alternatives but has anyone here actually done it? I found one online for about $76 and its a direct fit, unsure if the front wheel has to be removed, perhaps someone who did this can chime in. My bike is due for its 900 mile service this week and while looking it over, I did notice the front fender does a poor job keeping the road dirt, etc off the motor. If its simply bolt it on, I think Ill do it.

Thanks-
Dave

One of our local V85TT owners did this and I believe it's a simple bolt on in place of the stock fork guards. Clearance is reported as 'a little snug' for serious off roading / mud but should otherwise be fine. Stickers are available online. He has since added a fender extender to provide more splash protection.

There are several part numbers floating about for the Caponard fender.  All are not correct.  Unless you wish to spend some time on the milling machine making extensions, go with the one sold by MG Cycle.  Do not believe all that you read on the internet.

I did it on my V 85.  Got mine from AF 1 in Austin.  From their invoice the Item # is: 2B0024475.  $69.32 +$29.95 shipping:  $99.27 total.
This is a different item number than the prior link. The confusion comes from the fact that you have to order the Caponord 1200 RALLY front mud guard which I believe is different than the standard Caponord.   Easy bolt on.  No modification.  Still wish it was a little longer in the back to keep more muck off he front
of the engine.  Pyramid makes an extension which is expensive for a small piece of plastic. The shipping cost from England makes it expensive. Haven't made that purchase.  Not sure I will.  The Fender Extender item # is 0571173 from Pyramid Plastics.

Appreciate all the replies, I actually saw it on AF website, the shipping is almost 1/2 the price of the fender itself due to it being. Looks good and also practical

The Aprilia part number for the correct UK mudguard is 2B001431.
Front mudguard for 1200 Caponord Rallye.

I added a little fender extender that I made from rubber.  I had an 'official molded plastic' one, but I didn't like the look of it.

Got mine from AF1.  Then ended up getting another from Motomachines by accident. Even though they wereboth the same model number (#2B0024475, astommy2cy says) There's a bit of manufacturing variance and one fit tighter then the other.  After decided the both seemed too tight, I heated one up in the over to 300 F -- after making sure She Who Must Be Obeyed was not around, because wives just don't seem to understand these things  --  and straightened it a bit to reduce the curvature and double the clearance (see images below).

Before

After

Install is easy -- undo a few bolts, pull the old white thingies off, slot in the new fender, and bolt it won.
