I needed to replace the clutch on my G5 . This was the first time crabbing the frame and really it went fairly well . Possibly these pictures can help someone. I needed tie downs, scissor jack and my lift made it easier as well.

The bike looks like it's never been ridden ! Or did you stay up nights getting it ready for the photo shoot ?

Well it was restored in a fashion years ago. I like the way it looks. It sat for a number of years by the time I got it and needed a lot of work as they do when that happens. I enjoy working and riding older bikes anyway. Its wasn't as bad as I thought it would be to crab it really. Went fairly quickly.

Austin pulled his G5 into the shop after work at 4 pm for a clutch job. I grinned when I saw the door go up and him riding out at 10.

Austin did that in a short time for sure! I pulled it apart today but I wanted a look at the old parts before ordering what I need. Not in a big hurry really I have other bikes I can ride. I also want to give everything a good cleaning while its apart. I see a few other smaller things to do while I can get to them easily as well.

I'm making him an adapter to fit inside an original clutch hub, so that it can be used as an alignment/compression tool.

I guess I'm the odd man out here as I prefer to just pull the frame off the engine and set it all aside instead of having everything swinging from the ceiling.

In less than two hours I can have everything apart, but maybe I'd feel different with a later bike with lots of wires but my newest Tonti is a 93 without fuel injection.

Thanks Charlie! Big help.
I found Pete Roper's description helpful but I looked for good pictures and thought maybe these could help along with his instructions.
No need to hang anything from the ceiling it came apart quickly with the pictured scissors and tie downs. Basically lift the bike with the scissors remove the wheels and drive shaft/swingarm assembly and follow Pete's instruction for the smaller items. At that point lower the bike to the lift tie the front front down and start cranking the lift up. No hanging from anything. It clams right open. It was pretty straight forward and fairly quick really.

Once I crab it, I just put a 2X4 across the valve covers to hold everything up. Easy Peasey.

Yes I understand, but in my case I have a two story garage with no open rafters to throw a rope over the top. I might be able to use an engine hoist, but it just seems simpler to pull the bolt and roll the bike away. And I don't have a motorcycle bench so it's all on the garage floor.

I'm not saying crabbing is wrong etc.

Look at the rear stand under back of Griso, I made 2 of these, 1 for bigblocks, 1 for smallblocks. Pull swingarm, put stand in place, bottom rails drop right height to let trans out w/motor on a 4X4.

hmmm that's clever, I like that stand idea, I'll have to try that, I've always used an engine hoist to lift the frame of the engine.

I completely understand doing that for the Carc bikes.

You don't have to hang it from anything at all. Here are a couple more pictures further back. A lift is nice to tie the front end down with tie downs. Yup just the scissor jack. Was very easy and quick.
