Spotted my first Pan Americans...
« on: May 14, 2021, 10:59:02 PM »
I spotted my first two Pan Americans today.  They went whirring past on 84 -- none of this 'potato potato potato' business -- when I'd stopped at Skyline for a soda.  I was struck by how entirely ordinary they seemed.  After all those reviews, I'd expected... I dunno... a beam of light to shine down from the heavens?  A celestial fanfare?  A choir of angels, perhaps?  Instead, these were two very ordinary-looking big adventure bikes.  I have no doubt HD will sell tons of the things, and I'm sure they're every bit as good as the reviewers say, but they didn't trigger my, "I want one!" circuits like the V85 did.

I was leading demo rides at the local H-D dealership today. They rolled out a Pan American in the morning and at the end of the day I was able to take it for a spin, I was underwhelmed. After all the rave reviews I was expecting much more.

I was glad to get back on my V85 for the ride home.
