Getting ahead of yourself
« on: May 27, 2021, 05:32:03 PM »
Amazing how, after wrenching on bikes for years, it is still so easy to get ahead of myself when re-assembling.  A simple job (sort of.)  Reinstalling front and rear wheels after taking them to a local shop to have new rubber installed.

Tom and I got the wheels remounted in my garage.  No issues ..........Tom did most of the work.  The Triumphs are kind of fiddly, especially after being spoiled by single side swingarm bikes where the rear wheel can be off and on in a matter of a few minutes.

Same evening, I went back out to the garage to do some detailing.  Crap!  The freshly mounted tire is so flat, it won't register on a tire gauge.

OK ..... not wanting to bug my good riding buddy for yet more assistance, I pull the wheel, take it back to the local shop, where they find they've pinched and punctured the inner tube.  They fix, I bring it home this afternoon, and begin the task of remounting the rear wheel.

Screw up #1 - Finally get the axle aligned and through left and right side swing arm.  Tighten it up ..... only to remember the chain that is lying on the floor really should be on the sprocket.  Take it apart and do it one more time.

Screw up #2 - Thank Gawd, I got the fiddly rear passenger peg mount reinstalled ................. oh no ...........it has to come back off.  One of the muffler mounts attaches on the peg mounting bolt.

Oh well, it's only shop time!!!  Hate when I get ahead of myself on reassembling.

Everything goes together three times in a job.  If not I get worried.
