G5 Shade
« on: May 30, 2021, 07:52:01 AM »
I was looking at Hagerty valuations today to see if a Laverda is in my price range (it’s not), and saw that a concours 850T3 is valued at $15,700.00 and a G5 at $6,800.00.  Over double.  It also puts the T3 ahead of a Norton Commando combat Interstate at $13,200.00. I’m glad to see the T3 getting some love but...

Just like NADA and KBB, Hagerty values are all over the place. T3 at $15,700?!    Even the G5 at $6,800 is dubious.

I think in many cases the motorcycle (or other item) is just a vehicle to legitimize a large cash transfer. Sort of like money laundering.  The unwanted consequence is that prices bike-addicts have to pay are artificially inflated.

Seems like a difficult way to launder funds.  I’d go with wristwatches. I miss the days when credit card coolness was a new Road Glide. No one stepped on my toes and project bikes cost a few hundred dollars.  Now everyone sees a fully restored bike go for 15k and thinks their basket case is worth 10.

No interest in Bring a Trailer. Some kind of game going on there.

As for the 850T3 pulling twice the value of a V1000G5 it must be simple name recognition. The G5 isn't vastly improved but it is a better machine with more power and reliability...at least in factory configuration/tune. Otherwise it's the same basic cycle parts on both.

I have a Guzzi T-Series feature coming out in the July 2021 RealClassic magazine. Part 2 to follow soon after. I learned A LOT about Guzzi I didn't know studying for this review.

I think I will get two 850T3 emblems off ebay for $50 and put them on my G5.

The G5 is somewhat of an underdog from what I've learned. A lot of them ended up cafe'd or engine donors. I think there may only now be 4 or 5 in existence :azn:

Which makes them "extremely rare in concours unrestored condition" - soon selling for hundreds of thousands $$$ on BaT!

Nolan,
I’ve been trying to figure out the BaT “ game” for some time. What’s your take on the over the top bidding?

You’d better move the foot pegs back and throw another stripe on the tank. Prying BaT eyes will publicly dissect your bike.
