Got a 1098S I'm selling on, great bike, goes really well and handles better than any Guzzi I've ridden

Never given me any trouble to speak of, but servicing costs are pretty high and it's more due to poor dealer servicing in the area that's the reason for getting rid of it.

Way more power than you could ever use on the road, last of the framed bikes.

Enjoyed my time with it, as far as the looks some people love them, but IMHO most sports bikes over the past 15 years or so all look pretty similar

Different models Goover, although the 1198 probably 95% (or more) 1098, they look identical and engine architechture is pretty much the same

Cannot remember when the 1198 came out but it superseded the 1098

1198 apparently is a little more refined I've heard but never ridden one.

Few early 1098s spun their big ends (I think) and the gearbox had a fragile reputation, but that was mainly due to idiots installing quick shifters

Don't know if this is true, the engine is 1099cc, but Ducati called it a 1098 as there was some US tax form or something with the same number and Ducati thought it might affect sales

I have the naked version, 1098 S Streetfighter. More comfortable, for me. 400lbs wet. I have a lot of respect for it.

If I remember correctly, the S models have an aluminum fuel tank?  Very important as the standard 1098's and all other Ducatis of that vintage have the dreaded plastic fuel tanks that expand with ethanol fuel.

Don't think so, I believe some of the later special models had Aluminum tanks but the standard S models were plastic.

Not sure about the R which was the really sought after model and still is to this day
