NGC - Nice pic
« on: October 05, 2021, 09:58:17 AM »
Cut and paste from yahoo article.  It didn't list the name of the movie.  The passenger is Jacqueline Bisset.  The rider, passenger, and bike all say "suddenly its 1960!"  What's not to like?

I wonder if it was just a shot taken by an individual or a planned photo taken for some type of promotional reason?

In 1959, I watched Steve drive an Elva 1100 (or was it a Lotus?) at Southern California's Del Mar Fairgrounds road race (in the large parking lot).  He was quite good.  I don't remember if he raced under his own name or to avoid studio notice raced under a fictitious name.  He used Harvey Mushman when he rode in cross country desert races on a Triumph.  Steve appeared to be a "real" person, who acted to get money for bikes and race cars.  Lost him much too soon.

You mentioned airplanes.  In late April/early May, 2014, my oldest brother and I drove from DelMar to a small airport about an hour away to observe a Stearman fly-in.  When we arrived, we were told that admittance was only for owners and family.  But a gentleman approached us and said we could sit with his family and take in the event.

So many beautiful old Stearmans!  There was one in a hanger that was unusual because of its lack of military trim.  It was a beautiful black and silver,  and signage indicated that at one time, it had belonged to Steve McQueen.

Here she is!

Several years prior, I took the opportunity to purchase a ticket to fly as passenger in the front cockpit of a Stearman.  The airshow was held at Lost Nations Airport, east of downtown Cleveland.  What a beautiful airplane!  Here's a pic of that plane from either 1998 or 99.  The plane was owned and piloted by a gentleman from Parkersburg, West Virginia.
