Forgive Me For I Have Sinned
« on: November 12, 2021, 08:36:32 AM »
Yesterday I traded in my Audace. It has gotten too heavy and awkard for me so I have been looking for a replacement. Don't chastise me unduly though as I still have my V7 which will live next to my new 2022 Triumph T120. I put close to a hundred miles on it yesterday and like it very much. I needed a bike to tour on which the V7 is not suitable for me to use for that not that it can't be done. I am old and need my comforts.

On a further note I got the Triumph from Eurocycle Reno. I was not thrilled about going with them as I have not had pleasant experiences with that company in the past and I let them know that. I figured I needed to go to a Guzzi dealer to be able to get the best trade in value for the Audace. I did most of the dealing online but had actually visited and test rode the bike several days eariier. I was surprised to be treated very well and looked at as a valued customer. On top of that they gave me a very fair price for my Audace. Another dealer I contacted offered significantly less.  Another plus was that they didn't try to upsell a bunch of other things, just a nice straight fair deal. One of the management employees told me that they are well aware of their terrible reputation and are working to correct that. So if you are in the market for a new bike you might give them a try. They carry many of the Euro brands in their stores. Not all have all of them, Reno doesn't carry BMW for example but they have a great selection.

p.s. I will miss the Audace especially the incredible power.

The T120 might just be the goldilocks of bikes these days in terms of size, big and powerful enough to reasonably do anything, but small and light enough that it isn't the monster that "cruisers" and "touring" bikes have become.

Not to mention they are damn good looking bikes.

Enjoy!

I also like the Triumph heritage line and came really close to buying a Street Scrambler instead of the V85TT. The difference was the dealer's attitudes. The local Triumph shop was all about the numbers and pushing inventory. Jim Hamlin spent time answering my questions and addressing my concerns, going so far as to swap bodywork on my bike to grey - no cost. Don't care if it is an extra 90 minutes drive.

I have felt the pull to a modern T120 a number of times.  Congratulations.  I think they are fine machines.  Not a Guzzi though.

Unfortunately Guzzi doesn't make anything to fit my needs. If they built a V85 street going version with classic looks I would have been all in. The V85 has pretty much the same horsepower as the 1200 Bonneville.

Well, as I understood Mopar's objection it wasn't JUST about hp, but included chassis size/comfort/features.

That said, no neither the V85 or the new V7 850 is really the equivalent of the T120 in both hp/torque, though crank hp figures on the V85 are close.

T120 crank: 80 hp/77 torques - rear wheel: 72 hp / 72 torques - CW
2019 V85  crank: 80 hp/59 torques - rear wheel: 67 hp / 49 torques - CW
2021 V85  crank: 76 hp/60 torques - rear wheel: ?? hp / ?? torques
2021 V7 850: crank: 65 hp/54 torques - rear wheel: ?? hp / ?? torques

Dear kk -

A hearty CONGRATULATIONS on your new T120 Bonnie.  That's the 1200cc model, yes?

Beautiful bike...and you still have your V7...so what's the big deal? That still qualifies you as a...."Guzzisti", yes?

Please post a photo when you have time.  I like the new modern Triumphs...

Last summer I approached the dealership I bought my 2018 from 14 months previously .
What a bitch slap that was ! Wanted almost 5k against a new 2020 T120 . Needless to say
they'll never see my face again . So I too at a youngish 70 was considering a lighter bike
and the T-120 certainly caught my eye , but unfortunately it bit my pocketbook . Peter

I'll take a picture tomorrow,. I spent a good part of the day with DMV, insurance company and rigging up a temp luggage solution until my Cbow mounts arrive. Debating with myself between heated grips or gloves. I have only a little over 100 miles at this point but enjoying it so far. My V7  is lonely but she will be out soon.

I got 4K for a very nice Centauro with 27K on it. I was always VStrom curious, A few people I know have bought them and really like then so when a friend put me on to one that was for sale cheap I bought. I have to say except for the weak brakes it's a real nice bike with a fun motor that reminds me of the 750 Paso I had.

Very nice looking bike, love the classic lines  :thumb:

I sat on a modern Bonneville a few years ago, I couldn't believe how small and light it felt, with the 1200 engine it must be sweet on the back roads.

Wishing you many safe miles and smiles on your new ride.

Loving it. Rode it and the V7 yesterday. It was too cold to go very far but I like the bike very much. The biggest difference is that it doesn't have to be wound up to make power or smooth out. Some things are nicer on the Guzzi and some on the Triumph. Love both of them but I am not going to love the chain drive.
