Bored? Stuck home? Looking for something to do?
Go check up on elderly neighbors, If they have no power/heat, do what you can to help.
Mabe shovel their driveway/sidewalks in case they need medical help.
These are the things my parents taught me.

Maybe you should try it to get in shape

Yeah, you just need an inside project....I'm glad I have one as of last Saturday

Now if the new auger gearbox arrives by Monday it'll all work out ok, I think.

Ooooh, I did that on my blower attachment. Chewed the snot out of the ring gear, then broke it. Lucky I had another gearbox in inventory. Note to self, don't use grade 5 bolts on the augers instead of the proprietary shear bolts.

The birds have really been putting on a show today.  These happen to be mostly male and female purple finches, along with some house finches and yellow finches.

The wind and a little snow is out of the North, and this window faces South. I'm assuming they are sitting here just to get out of the wind. There have also been sparrows of course, Cardinals, doves, a bluejay, among others. Juncos on the ground. Red bellied and Downy woodpeckers, nuthatches.
Worked on the airplane project today, too. Life is good.

Hey Larry,

FWIW, your grade 5 bolts may not have had anything to do with your gearbox failure although I'd advocate using the recommended pins.  My thrower had all the original auger shear pins when it failed.   Upon disassembly I found the unit had lube in it but who knows if it was an adequate amount.  The owners manual offers no routine maintenance on the GB like periodic lubrication, etc.  Plus, the bushings and seals were toast too.  Oh well.

reloaded our feeders and our second wheel of suet.

Flyover Okla has about 5 inches and cold wind.  Not expected to get to single digits but lots of wind.  Hopefully, it will be our typical winter snap.  65 a week from now.  Late Feb is usually pretty nice, so I hope it will be normal.

You are lucky your birds are outdoors.  Ice storm here east of Dallas.   Power went out about 3:30 am.   At 4:00 am, our African Grey Parrot started SCREAMING about the lack of heat.  Then the smoke alarms all went off.

Then she really lost it.

Dang Swede,  I hope you're staying warm.  I thought they fixed the power south of the Red River?   It's just a typical winter storm.  Even for DFW.  I think your smoke alarms need new batteries.

Since you're online, I'm guessing it's just a short outage due to some downed power lines from freezing rain?

Anyway, I'm not driving tonight.  Went to the grocery store in the Trooper but got home before dark.  I think my kid's Focus RS was too close to the ground, so I took him to the grocery store.   The roads haven't been plowed but luckily it's a few inches of snow and not much ice.   I think he'd have made it there with no issue.

Seven degrees here this morning.  A thin layer of ice under ten inches of snow.

We have a walk-out basement (where the little motorcycles live) and there's a three foot snow drift against the door.

It appears that we will be working on the "inside" projects today.

15" - 18" last week, and we're looking at almost another foot on the ground this morning, and it's still snowing.

We'll be pushing close to 3 feet in 10 days, methinks.

Winter in central Maine.......

At least it isn't ice!

Back in'98, (Man, does THAT make me sound old!), we had an ice storm that went on for days.
About 4" of ICE. We were without power for 11 days straight. Not much fun at the time, but
GREAT stories and memories!

It went south of us happily. I was still trying to decide if I was going to hide under the bed or in the closet after watching the tv weather forecast. It’s just winter but they sure had dire predictions, fear porn to the max.

The robins have returned to central IL.   Apparently they never really leave, well supposedlly some do, but they go somewhere where we cant see them every fall, and come back around this time of year.  Personally, if I were one, I would wait till at least mid April.
