This one is out there.  It makes the 40K Kawi H2 look like a bargain.

I only wish I had that kind of disposable income.

That is a museum piece.  You could not ride it without breaking it down and changing every gasket.  There is a motorcycle shop near me that has a collection with probably 50 old nearly unridden bikes like that one including several Elsinores.  At these prices, it will make a great retirement fund for him.

That bike was slow, I used to run away from them with my Sachs 125.

...and THAT’s why it’s not baffling.
Buyers want to spend $15,000 now, so they can get $25,000 back in the future. It ceases to have any worth as a bike, it’s simply a “prize”.
If it was 100 grand, cashed up investors would say...
”Jeez I’d love to get that..
It’ll be worth an absolute fortune one day...”..(and the seller disappears with a suitcase bulging with 100 k..)
You only need to examine one question to find out why. Is it a “better” bike than today’s Honda XR 125 ?
No.
People want what’s out of reach.
Figureatively.
Emotionally.
Economically.

It’s a pyramid scheme on two wheels, humans can be absolute dicks sometimes.

I was given a 73 SL125 and 74 XL100 last year. The dump wanted $20 to take the 100 so I brought it back home for parts. I’m glad I held on to it.

There aren't too many of those out there with 311 miles on the clock.

What does that work out to in $ per pound of bike?
