PCH is one of the all-time great roads, that's for sure.  Just once, I'd like to have lunch at Nepenthe when the view isn't fogged in...just once!

It's a good view (sorry!!).  We saw a pod of whales the last time we were there.  Been more than a few years, though!  1995 or 6 maybe?  We went with the nicest folks- a Japanese couple working for a year in Bay Area- and we all got real lucky with that trip.

Nice one! Familiar territory… I’m based out of Petaluma. Reach out if you’d like to cruise with another Guzzi sometime. I hit up the section from Tomales to Pr. Reyes Station regularly - and many of the other amazing roads we have around here. Been up to Stewart’s Point?

Cheers-

If you ever do plan to do it, make sure you ride North to South.  Along the road there are many nice turnouts to stop and photo or relax.  Those turnouts are always on the right or ocean side of the road as you head south.  Some of them even halfway around a curve.  Traveling northbound it is nigh impossible to turn off without crossing in front of an oncoming Winnebago.

The best plan might be Stewart's Point to Cambria.  There are wonderful roads across the coastal hills leading to and from the more-inland CA-101.

Nearly 700 miles.  Do it in two days or a week.

Great pictures!  A dream ride for me, hopefully one day.  I have an old friend from grade school days that lives in Gualala.  I would love to drop in for a surprise visit.

I did it in sections so I could do back and forth and avoid riding through the cities.

Also did some loops over the coastal mountains.

North to south is safer for pull offs, but the curves and views are unique, so I always try to ride roads in both directions if possible.

I rode this stretch this past September. It was mid-week but still quite busy. A lot of drivers thought they were practicing for the next Grand Prix. There was quite a bit of gridlock in the Bay Area. I am not fond of lane splitting but it is pretty much a necessity though. However the trip was well worth it. I was riding my Audace, it would have been more relaxing on a smaller and lighter bike. The Audace doesn't particularly like tight curves and slow speed lane splitting.

Other than the great year round weather, the only thing I miss after 46 years in CA is the great roads of the North Bay Area.  Coast Hwy being the most memorable.

Never got to do it on a bike but did the ride back in the 70's in a Toyota sports car, beautiful scenery.  You thought you saw the epitome and around the next curve would be a view more picturesque.  Larry

When I lived in California, (2006-2011), always one of my favorite rides, especially around Morro Bay and San Simeon...

Couple of pics on the way back to Petaluma from HWY 1 on Marshall Petaluma Rd.

I have this Thursday off, and am thinking of heading up to Stewart’s Point for a lunch run if anyone’s interested in joining. It’s supposed to be a balmy 74 degrees out there, which is uncommonly warm… even for summer!

Cheers-

Sure is a nice place to visit! (But I wouldn't want to live there )  Hate that it's so far away.  Once every two or three years is about all I can do to ride out there.  This June I've decide to ride the Pacific Northwest (Washington and Oregon) since I've only touched those places briefly.

I’ve ridden Highway 1 more times than I could count, wonderful road if you avoid traffic and in particular if you have a bike that likes the really tight stuff.  We tend to forget that something like my Ducati ST4, as good of a sport tourer as it may be is not as good through traffic on endless twisties as something like a V85TT. Even more so if you’re two up with bags.

Here’s a screenshot from Google Maps to ponder, if you’re interested.  When I rode up the west coast of Sardinia (Italy) to Alghero the road, flora and scenery was literally indistinguishable from Highway 1 in California.

Great photos, all. Love those PNW snaps: spectacular!

Got the V85 out yesterday: hit 1 South from the town of Tomales to Stinson Beach, pictured here, along with the sweep out to Bolinas:

Today’s Journey was on the V7, starting on 1 at Jenner, then South through Bodega Bay to Point Reyes Station:

Living here in California may have its downsides, our relatively new ‘fire season’ chief among them, but I can’t get enough of the boundless turns and spectacular scenery (not to mention year round riding weather). Could be worse!

Glad you’re happy there, Ralph. Texas has always intrigued me. Guessing that your SF Bay Area dollars went pretty far in rural Texas, eh?

The Pacific coast is one of the reasons I moved back west all those years ago.  But the weird thing is, we get used to it, and find ourselves thinking, "Highway 1?  Again?"

I went to California years ago to consider living out there.  Unfortunately, I found out 30 million people got there ahead of me!
