MGX-21 Flying Fortress

Whats the deal with the with the MGX Flying Fortress? Looks like a Cali 1400 but I have seen post's here that they had many problems with that model. Are they good or bad?

But yes, there have been problems.  Not necessarily the MGX, but a 1400 engine problem.  Others have had great experiences with them.

I don't think there are problems unique to the MGX any different than the other 1400's.

It does have some quirks.
1. Wonky awkward low speed handling that can be minimized
2. The Radio/Intercom and MGMP program are terrible, almost impossible to get to work ( I was able to get mine to work). FM radio reception is a joke, as is the stock stereo.
3. High speed stability is terrible, especially when dealing with vehicle turbulence or cross winds on the highway. Some insist removing the front wheel cover helps, but I found that 90 was as fast I was willing to go without any cross winds. Adding batwing and windscreen screens helped create more downforce. https://www.rs-motorcyclesolutions.de/en/hand-protectors-for-moto-guzzi-flying-fortress-mgx-21.html. RS Solutions also had other real nice accessories, crash bars, etc.
3. Fuel mileage sucked. Best I got was 35, and when commuting, was in the high teens.
4. Both gauges fogged internally and left streaks inside the glass, and the led lighting on one gauge was 1/2 the other.
5. Dealer setup was terrible, the batwing and left handlebar stub fell off on my 350 mile ride home.......

I made a bunch of mods, and adapted a Guzzi rear case, as the side cases are a joke for any real carry capacity. The AGO pipes sounded great, the motor is turbine smooth, fueling is pretty good

I liked the bike but not enough to keep it. Was too heavy, slow and high speed stability was unacceptable, BUT it was the most comfortable and mid speed/mid twisty Sport Touring bikes I have owned. It was fantastic in sweepers and sub 90 MPH speeds. I DONT miss it at all. Really wish I had bought the Eldo, would still have it.





Sold it to this guy, and never heard from him again.

Might be the camera, but the wear on that front tyre looks shocking.

I had an Audace which is pretty much the same bike minus the fairing and saddlebags but with an 18" front wheel. I will say it was very stable at high speeds although I never ride it over 100 mph. Low speed, sub 10 mph was awful the main reason I sold it. 22* headstock angle was the main cause I believe. Fueling on mine below 3,000 rpm was also troublesome,  a Booster Plug helped some but still not very good.  A Beetle map wasn't available but is now. At highway speeds I usually got 40 mpg. It was a good bike for the most part but for my aging body too much for me to handle.
