Tire
« on: April 13, 2022, 07:46:40 PM »
I got that Harley 2019 low rider, it has 4500miles so when I was at the cycle shop just got a new rear tire for when I need it( about50% tread)just can’t tell about supply issues now day’s.  The tire looked a little old so when I got home checked the date it’s 6 year 1 week old.  Going to take it back and tell them order me a newer one.  Don’t think that tire would last the summer.Rudy

It would probably last but why pay full price for a 6 year old tire?  Doesn't make a lot of sense buying or selling it.

One that doesn't have a process in place to rotate stock to the front.

Caught my wife doing this with groceries 30 years ago.

There have been a number of discussions about tire age on another bike website I frequent.  Since a number of mfrs say a tire stored under proper conditions is good for 10 years or more from date of mfr, many of those guys have said a 6 yr old tire that will be used up in one season is not an issue.  Many of these guys are high mileage sport touring riders.  I counter, how do I know the conditions of storage were optimal?

That said, when I got a 3 yr old tire (that would likely last me 2 to 3 years) and said I would return it, I got a lot of 'just send it to me' responses.  In the end, what matters is your confidence in the hardware under you.  Btw, Revzilla matched the lower price (from that other vendor) and shipped me a replacement that was less than a year old (this was about 5 or 6 yrs ago).

Of course there’s the argument that says..
If you keep buying stuff on line and only go to a store kicking and screaming when you have to, the owner will hand you the crap that’s down at the dusty end of the warehouse under the collapsed cardboard boxes and adult magazines.
I’ll bet my aching arse that if I went to my bloke, he’d say to me..
“Don’t take that old bastard, if you can wait a couple of days I’ll get you more recent ones....”

Forrrgetttabaaaart it...

Got back to the cycle shop today and got a 31/2 year old cruise tire their sidewall or 65 wheir my FXLR has 70.  But don’t forget I’ve got a 3 deg. Tree ordered, for the sidecar.  They said cruise tire have greater tread depth as well, more ware.  It could be a month or so before this all happens. Bog this machine has the power.  But it rides like a sportster.  Only sportster owner would know what I’m talking about.  But I have a sportster so no surprise.Rudy
