I just type in the top right bar labeled search

Oh goodness... With my Android phone there is an up versus down arrow at the banner. If it down, my Messaging works properly... but the Search box is obscured 😐🙁.

Funny about that.
I tried to search “A bit of exciting news” and all I get is a run down of posts.

I did a test and tried “V85 facelift” and it came up, but tried an old one “Wire wheel Norge” and again no luck.

How does a person get to "advanced search"?

The search function is basically outsourced to Google. Do your search. On the right side will be a gear icon for settings. Click on that. Two thirds down you'll see an option for advanced search. Click on that.
