1980 SP1000 rolling basket case.
« on: July 11, 2022, 06:18:23 PM »
The very first Moto Guzzi that I owned was an '80 SP 1000, purchased in 1983.  I have owned three others over the years and like the idiot that I am, I have not kept one.   :embarrassed:

Well this rolling basket case came available, and I could not pass it up.  Needs E.v.e.r.y thing but hey, I will start in on it and the transformation will, no doubt be a loooong story.  Perhaps I will do a build thread...

The first 1980 SP1000... I could not find a great photo of the original livery of Blue with Black.  cell copy of a pre-digital print

The current rolling basket case...A previous owner had done some odd stuff, that exhaust etc.

And on an unrelated subject, I just noticed that the Moto Guzzi photo has the Triumph M/C sign in the background and the nearly completed Triumph T140V on the other lift has the Moto Guzzi sign in the background.     :boozing:

More later,

Glad to hear you found a bike to do.   It’s humbling to realize that these bikes aren’t the cheap & easy follies that they once seemed to be.  Hope it’s a fun adventure.

Keep us posted on the build.

Hahaa... They appear to be Guzzi Sport or Sporti canisters.  I'll look up the part number sometime.  Whoever attached them was Very creative with the mid-pipes too.
Doesn't look like much however, someone went to a lot of work to form them.

Thanks, yeah,
My kind of project, I like going through the sub-systems of carbs, brake calipers etc. as well as the engine and gearbox.
Going to be a long slog but I'll have a reason to be in the garage... often.
