Honda Trail 125
« on: December 15, 2022, 06:00:31 AM »
This is only the second one of these that I've seen.  The other one was in SE Minnesota - and the owner was gracious enough to let me have a good ride with it.

Probably as much about nostalgia as anything else, but I wanted one, and so this one followed me home.

LOL - the weather this morning is 34 degrees.  It'll be a while before it goes out.   In the mean time, Ima put a little red bow on it, for Christmas.

I am just now discovering the multitude of farkles.  Don't know about the original aux fuel, but I've seen pictures of a rotopax mounted to the left side.  The bike's gas tank holds 1.4 gallons, and 0.25 gallons is "reserve"  Might be handy, even if it gets 100 mpg.

Nice Kevin.  Sloans had one on the floor when I was buying the V85TT.  I was surprised at how large a bike it was.  If I didn't already have the Van Van, I would have worked out a bundle purchase.  I was very tempted.

There's a Revzilla video out there of an original Trail 90 and one of these 125's on a trek up thru Alaska.  LOL - funny in places.  Decent video.

I always liked the old 90 and the new ones are cool also. Figured one of those would be great to leave at the little house we have on cape cod for beating around on.

Actually, that would be pretty cool accessory, if available.  You're talking about that fat canteen-looking thing that was mounted to the back, under the rack, right ?

First bike I ever drove was the original Trail 90.  The kind where you had to add a sprocket extension and chain links for the "trail" part of the experience!

does that have the semi automatic clutch activated by the shift lever like the 1960's models?

great fun to wheelie.  put it in first, hold down and the shift lever, rev it up and "pop the sift lever'

I know the Honda 50 cubs used to get 150+ mpg on a regular basis.  I would often get 120 mpg from my 1985 XL350R.

the marketeers at Honda understand the phrase "You're only young once.  But you can be immature the rest of your life!"

Who wouldn't pay good money for that?

It does.  4-speed, all "up".  Just keep kicking down and ya hit neutral.

hahahha it has a little bitty 65 CCA battery.  Electric start, and a kicker.  All LED lights, but probably lucky if it has enough charging overhead for heated grips.

If you get a few inches of snow...... that will be the most fun bike in your fleet.  Dress warm.  Multiple layers also helps increase the bounce factor!!!

Congrats! You'll have a lot of fun with that little bike. Mine has been a blast around town, as a grocery getter, in the snow, riding trails, and out motocamping.

The original aux tanks are rare and expensive, but there are many new alternatives ranging from fuel bags (not something I'd trust the seams on) and plastic containers, to metal fuel bottles. I have a 2L spare fuel bottle on my CT125.

Don’t fart around with stupid farkles..
Get on the bastard and go….! A big trip on one of those, really drags you back to basics and even though you’re alone, you meet some old friends from the past.
The mud on the hot engine with the putt…putt…putt of the little single is cathartic.

Yep! I think the canteen style aux tank is not only neat looking but a nice conversation doo dad.....a useful smart farkle. Then you'd be all set for that Euro ride Huzo was has planning in another post.  Imho, the original ct90 & 110's have appreciated so much in value in the last few years that if I still desired one I'd probably opt for the new ct125.

My bike is not as good as the new CT125, but I’ve learned to adapt.
The XR 250 tank I think is 9 litres and the under seat one is about 5 litres.
At 3.0 litres/100 km, that is a full day of riding on one fill.
