No Start - Startus fuze blown
« on: May 13, 2023, 03:18:42 PM »

What better place to be stranded then in my own garage.  Go out to start and nothing.  Lights Ok,  Battery check ok,  Fuel pump ok,  Diagnosis - No faults.   NO Horn and no Start?   07 Norge with 49K miles.

Check fuses and the fuse connected to the relay of the "Status Interuptus" is fried?   Is it the relay gone bad?  Will any relay I have for MC work temporarily?
What to look for?  All the other fuses intact.    It is a 20 amp fuse.    Assume is connected correctly as it came already installed with it and no problems upto now.
Thanks,

You can use a horn relay from auto parts, plug wires in same spot as the diagram says on replacement.

I ended up fixing it by swapping out with another relay from the bike and it started.   So problem fixed.    Shuffle off to Auto zone for a replacement new relay and a back up. All is good.

* lucky am I to have had the problem at home and not on the side of the road on the hottest day of the year so far.  I feel I was.  Not a Moto Guzzi problem but a relay problem.     It has a 20 AMP fuse in it so that is what I replaced it with but was wondering what is the recommended Fuse for a Startus Interuptus install?   15?  20? 30?

Not sure why you say the horn did not work. That relay and fuse should not be connected to the horn circuit.

The inrush current for the starter solenoid is well over 20 amps. After it pulls in, it is a bit under 20 amps. If you use 20 amps and the fuse blows, it usually means the solenoid did not get pulled in properly and the current stayed well over 20 amps.
If the fuse blew, I would look for a weak connection, or maybe a gunked up solenoid.

No idea why the relay would have anything to do with blowing the fuse. Are you sure the relay caused it?

Wayne,  How would I know?  Replacing the relay and  blown fuse together cured the condition.  Everything works now -  including the horn which did not when the fuse was blown.  What would you suggest I investigate?  I purchased the bike with the startus installed.

SemperVee  Is this the first time you started it this year? If you’ve been riding it how long had it been sitting since you last had it running? Wayne is probably on to something with a possible stuck solenoid worth checking. Or you could just ride. Relays are known to go bad, so maybe this is a one time deal. If the Status interuptus fix was working prior probably no reason to suspect it, but still worth checking just to take that off possible suspect list. If Foto Guzzi sees this he may chime in. I know you followed his thread awhile back. He may have several good suggestions since he had 2 07 Norges to play with. I don’t recall him finding anyone specific thing causing the problem.

I would carry spare fuses for sure.

Multiple start ups and a ride and seems to be cured..  (Crossed fingers)    Was a bad relay.  But I am now carrying a  new spare Relay along with the fuses I always carry.
