For what it's worth, there have only been 2 Moto Guzzi's that have finished an Iron Butt Rally.  Once again, BMW, Honda and Yamaha dominate the entry list.

P.S.  I will remember to add an h from now on.

First deer strike. Kind of early in the event. Usually two strikes per event. Cumulative mileage over a million. So thats one strike every 500,000 miles. 2 up riders okay. Not as good news for the bike.

Yeah, butt...  Steve Atwood (sp?) WON it on an LM3.   I'd be happy to finish on a Stelvio...

The first leg of the rally ends today with a mandatory checkpoint in Tulsa.  From spotwalla it looks as if a few riders will be running hard just to get there on time.  If they don't show up in the time window they will be out of the rally.

Yes, Steve won in 1993 when the rally was more distance and less planning.  I believe he covered 12,500+ miles and finished the rally on one cylinder.

If I was in Tulsa tonight, I know what I'd be doing.

It would be fun to hang out and watch the riders roll through the check point.

I helped sponsor a rider in the previous two rallies.  Finished 11th as his best result so far.
Those folks are in another universe.  He's not in this one as his bike developed issues just prior to the start.

In 07 I shuttled four bikes from the mid rally checkpoint to the BMW dealer and back.
Not one of them finished. One of them burned up three bevel drives and then was rear-ended by a car.

Can't believe someone violated the confidentiality agreement concerning bonus information.

Why do some people feel they need to show their life on Facebook?

Sounds like a violation of rules that merits a DNF.

Brett Donahue whose family owned a HD shop, blew an engine on his sportster in 2005.  He replaced it, took a 10,000 point penalty and still finished the IBR.  He came back for another run in 2007 and placed third.

Earlier I mentioned that 2 Moto Guzzi's finished the Iron Butt Rally.  We know Steve Attwood did win the rally in 1993.  What I didn't mention was that the 2nd finisher on a Moto Guzzi was in 2013 on a Norge.

300K?  Wow.  Those Harleys are as reliable as a good hammer.  You know, a good hammer will last forever...as long as you replace the head and the handle every once in a while.
