Anybody Know this Cal III in NC??
« on: August 01, 2023, 04:32:29 PM »
Im just asking if anyone knows this 1990 Cal III in Winston Salem NC? Ive already made the deal, and Im going to collect it later this week. I noticed a MGNOC decal inside the top box in the photos and thought this might be a well known bike. Or infamous (I hope not as it's mine no matter what) it has a trailer hitch and the clutch is slipping...connecte d?? perhaps, it also has some minor rash on the right side and some odd  body mods. It was priced accordingly for needing a clutch and having some rash so Im pretty happy overall. FYI after a 72 Eldo that I just loved, in 1989 I purchased a new Cal III fully faired in all Burgundy ( I wanted a two tone) and rode it all over creation. eventually traded it in on a LeMans and kind of wished I would have kept the Big Girl.

Anyway, if anyone is familiar with this bike Id appreciate any history so I don't reinvent the wheel so to speak.

I made contact with the owner a couple weeks ago and he gave me in-depth details on the bike. The owner lives near me in a near by town.
If you would send me a Pm I’ll foreword you the info by phone.

Sorry to kick this to the top again, but.....  I wanted to say thank you to one of the previous owners of this bike for contacting me and telling me his experiences (mostly positive) and the seller who while not a Guzzi guy was a stand up guy who did a  good job representing a 30 year old Guzzi for what it was. I wish I could have spoken with the owner that had the right side crash, judging by how much rear crash bar was ground away, he was moving along pretty good. I purchased the machine and she is not what I would call rough, just...been allowed to Soldier on without proper care.

I need to replace the clutch, maybe the pressure plate, seems a shame to just order one without open her up, but needing a clutch at 30k and having done trailer duty of some kind, IDK??? Yeah, Im gonna change it just because.  Cycle Gear had IRC Duro Tour tires on sale for $99 each , so..new shoes. that's it except an oil leak on right cylinder , best..valve cover, worst..head gasket, either way not bad.

I am looking to correct the following in case anyone is sitting on a horde...I need Mirrors, I think the Cal III and the SP III fully faired are the same, Im open to nn stock if you know of a good sub. I also want to avoid a $200 Gustafson windscreen, they are close but never exactly right. Lastly thee handlebars it has are kind of odd sitting on risers (see pics) it came with what they say are the stock bars but they look like T3 police bars , so Im looking.

other than that, confidence is high and thanks for the couple guys who reached out to me with history on this machine.
