Trailerable motorcycle covers
« on: September 03, 2023, 06:21:24 PM »
Haven’t seen this topic on the forum before, probably cus most guzzi riders don’t trailer their bikes, they ride them.

But just in case a member reading this knows someone who does trailer a bike occasionally, I’m trying to find a motorcycle cover that will protect the bike from the elements, work for inside winter storage, and also can handle 75-80 mph speeds on an open trailer and stay on without beating up the bike, rip into shredds, or act like a parachute.

Google search of trailerable MC cover doesn’t provide a lot of options that have good reviews. Anybody know of a manufacture who makes one that works?

Unless it fits extremely tight to the bike like shrink wrap, I'd be hesitant to cover the bike while trailering. Lose material flapping against painted surfaces is probably not a great thing.

A better bet would be get a nose cone for the trailer to deflect wheel fling.

Years ago, I learned about covering any tarped or covered load with a net.

On a car building site, it was suggested by someone transporting a covered car between paint and finishing.  They used an old fishing net (as recommended)  to tightly secure the cover to the car and had a completely successful transport.  As a Guzzi note, I use a net to keep my tarps from being flapped into shreds when hauling loads of brush and similar awkward things to landfill.  It works great, whether netting is solid or elastic.

If I was moving a covered bike, I would use net(s) as needed to tightly secure the cover to the bike and expect good results.

If you’re looking for a reason to repaint your bike most any cover will do ! If you’re worried about road grime while being uncovered on the trailer , buy some S-100 or similar product & clean it upon arrival .

More concerned about rocks and road junk. I’ll look for the S-100 haven’t heard of it before. But I’m going with the cover and netting to secure it. Would like to spend more time ridding than cleaning.

If using an open trailer just leave them naked.  Any cover even with netting will find a way to flap at highway speeds and abrade the paint.  Most trailers have fenders and your tow vehicle will block rocks thrown by trucks.  I have never had a bike damaged on an open trailer.  Or just go big and get an enclosed trailer.
