I saw 3 up close and personal in Wilmington, VT last week on the KLR.
I saw them before they actually got into the road; good thing, too.

The EBC brake setup on that machine was worth the money!

Still waiting on all the parts to arrive at the dealership repairing my V85TT.  Hopefully I can gel with the bike over the winter because I know I will take a beating trading it off for something else.

This is what lept out at me 5 miles before the Fossil rally and after 12 hours of riding!  Happened so fast , all I remember is it coming up the front end and into my elbow and shoulder,  a couple of wobbles and I carried on, a bit slower though :) .

I have 5 bucks that come through the yard almost every morning to eat grass, weeds and any apples that have fallen of the tree. Two are 5 points, one 4 point and a couple of 3 pointers. They will let me get within 20 feet of them. They have been coming for 3 or 4 years. They are apparently smart enough to stay close to town to avoid being shot and  pretty much off the highway.

Where I now live in NM we only have mule deer no whitetail. They seem to be much smarter about crossing roads as you rarely see a road kill mule deer. Maybe they hear you coming sooner with those big ears.

Fortunately, I haven't encountered a deer while I was on my bike at any speed.

I did run over a deer with my van on I-40 one night.  It was lying in the road at the exit ramp, so it didn't come through the windshield.

I attended a "Celebration of Life" gathering yesterday for a riding acquaintance.......

> Sad News on the Passing of Steve Clarke <

On behalf of the Board of Directors I have the sad duty to let you know that Steve Clarke, beloved BMWMOC member and friend, was the victim of a tragic accident yesterday afternoon, September 15. Steve was in West Virginia at the RA Rally riding with club members when a deer jumped onto the road colliding with his bike and throwing him into the oncoming lane of traffic where he was struck by a car and was killed.

Steve’s daughter is making arrangements, and we will give you the details as soon as we know them.

Steve was a dear friend of mine – it lifted my mood just to see him when he would show up for a ride. His enthusiasm, friendliness and ready smile were contagious. I will miss him, and I know many of you will, too.

That's tough Art. My condolences to the family and to yourself.

I am so pleased here in New Zealand that our deer have enough smarts to stay well away from roads, and population in general.

A car hit a deer today on HW 17 South ( SFO Bay Area ), and there was a three car pile/crash ..as I was riding my Breva 750.
Few miles before I passed by a remains of a deer on the right hand side of road, also on 17 South.

There was bit of jam because of this, and I was able to split lanes and pass through without any problems.
( A truck driver even folded his huge/wide left mirror inwards seeing me riding between vehicles, so that was nice gesture )

Yeah, we've got an overgrown apple orchard next to our property and it is packed with deer.  A city in the next county over hired professionals to go "thin the herd", it was my understanding at the time that the meat went to several city shelters.  Anyway, ride safe, steer clear of deer and watchout for slippery leaves on the roadway.

So very close.  Out for a ride on the V 85 on Tuesday around 6:00 pm, to enjoy the warm fall Ohio weather.  Traveling in the country, just passed over a state route and continue on county road.  Just got done accelerating and slipped into 6th gear, probably doing 55 - 60 mph.  Saw two deer on the
right close to the road, and just as I am swinging my vision to the left, out pops a third one from the corn field and is full speed crossing
directly in front of me.  I clamp on the brakes full pull, the front wheel chirps, ABS kicks in, and I miss her by no more than a foot.  My speed
at best guess was probably 30-35 mph when she flashed by.  Instantaneous.  Between my wife and myself we have hit 4 over the last 30 years
(we live rurally) , but this is the closest I have come to having an impact while on two wheels.  Beautiful time of year, but until the corn has been
harvested, it creates visibility problems and provides virtually no warning.

Just "Park"... ;)

I ran off three of them that were eyeing my newly planted irises, not 10 minutes ago.  I live in the depths of the suburbs, but next to a creek and woody/brushy area that they use as a path.

The rut is beginning here. This guy and his two girlfriends just showed up on my back property. Starting to see roadkills on I95 during my work commute. The mast crop here this year is huge. Maybe the deer will stay in the woods and not wander around so much.

No deer on this island but the dumb goats are getting whacked.  Maui has Axis deer and because of drought conditions, they're at lower elevations.  More are involved in vehicular accidents on that island.

All I’ve heard about are the invisible cows- how common are they?

Invisible cows are still a road hazard on Haleakala and Mauna Kea especially since you enter open range.  They only become visible when there is no fog or just before hitting them.

More shark sightings and bites recently but of course they're only of concern if you treat the Pacific Ocean as a swimming pool at Disney Land.

I made this stop south of Columbia, Mo. this week. The deer are getting so tame here especially in State Parks like this. I could have poked this doe with my tape measure   The Honda-Montessa trials bike was at the local Honda shop and just for fun
