sump filter adapter
« on: November 09, 2023, 08:02:51 PM »
Hi all, I have never been comfortable with the sump oil filter adapter that only allows a few turns before the filter gasket takes up and I use a hose clamp as security but would like to make one with more threads or if available for purchase where from. otherwise as my sump wont be coming off for a little while what are the two threads on the adapter , one end I can copy from a filter but the one in the sump I require , anyone know diameter  and pitch, thanks Ray

Les Price machined a bit off of the oil filter sealing surface of the sump to fix this.

What is the purpose of a "sump oil filter adaptor" is it to use a different type of oil filter ? I use a hose clamp as well, on the internal filter, as its easy, and worth the peace of mind, especially since the oil pressure sending units on my bikes have been failing lately!

No Rick , the adapter Im speaking of is what the standard filter screws onto in the sump and the filter only goes on by a few threads and I would like it to be a few threads longer , and yes thousands of Guzzi have travelled millions of mile without an issue and I have never had an issue but would like to make it better . Ray
PS  I think it is one of the few parts not shown in the parts list it is included with the sump. Why do we all fit a hose clamp when millions of cars have the same idea and do their oil filters come loose, I think if the filter went on further we would feel more comfortable with it , just thinking out aloud
