Italian Cousin Moves in
« on: March 16, 2024, 10:21:29 AM »
As some of you may know, I have been in a cast or boot since battling two ankle reconstruction surgeries. This has prevents me from being able to ride any of our bikes below. So in the mean time, I was hanging around my favorite happy place a few months back, Cadre Cycle.  Enzo had just taken a 2009 Black Vespa GTS 250ie in trade. The light went off in my head, hey I can ride that regardless of what is on my left leg. Then Enzo told me he jumped on the expressway the night before on his way home, and this thing rode like a champ. So needless to say, I jumped on for a test ride and said YES this will be great to fill the gap, until I can ride again.  What I didn't expect was what I had been missing, scooters are a blast and this thing hauls ass, 250 four valve, water cooled and very capable, so I have fallen in love it with it!  Pleanty of storage, a glove box to keep papers, cell phone and sunglasses in. Anyway I am some what able to ride some of our bikes again, but this is is no utility bike anymore, it is a beloved addition to the stable.   Just thought I would post this for any other Scooter-curious folks!

Since then I had addedd a front fender guard, some new emblems, front Faco rack and had a custom seat cover made.  I really love this lil cutie!

Hidden secret in American 2 wheeling.  I drop into the bike lane when traffic is congested.  Legal here and visually not as offending looking as a motorcycle.

Very pretty scooter. I’ll bet it’s your go-to even after you are back on bikes.

I owned a Suzuki Burgman 650 for a while.  At stoplights, lots of cars wanted to drag race.  They always lost!

After showing it to quite a few motorcyclists who noted the abundance of storage space and comfortable riding position, a number of them said "Why am I still riding a motorcycle?"

This thread is giving me serious pause. I haven't ridden a Vespa since the early 60's. Maybe it's time for a re-visit. I wonder how they are on so so pavement like we have here in Maine? I just looked at the dealer's website and you can get an anniversary model 300 for only 12,500 (not a typo). Standard 300 is around 8K. Time to check the used prices.

Commuted for 10 years on a 2011 S150…40000km.  Great traffic beater and free parking.  Sold it during - and I couldn’t believe how many people wanted it, even with the mileage on it…
